Context: I'm a 33 year old male that has been suffering from some annoying, but not awful, symptoms for the last 9 months. I'm a Science
type guy and not one for alternative therapies that don't have evidence, and I try to be an objective type of person. I eat relatively healthily, but not as healthily as I should. My story so far...
Just over a year ago I contracted both Step Throat and Mono for the first time in my life, one right after the other. I got some anti-biotics for the strep and it cleared it up as one would expect. A few months after I got another infection that felt like strep+flu, and after avoiding it for some time I ended up on broad-spectrum Antibiotics
for a couple of weeks.
A month or so after I started to experience anal itching. It got pretty severe quickly, and I started getting a small amount of white discharge. I figured it had to be what we call Thrush back in England (Candida) so I got some cream for vaginal thrush and used that, along with improving my diet for a few weeks. It cleared up after a few days and I thought I'd beaten it.
Sometime after this, I don't remember when, I started developing a lot of intestinal gas. I would need to pass wind all the time, way more than ever before in my life. I could hear my intestines gurgling and bubbling. I initially thought it was something temporary, but weeks passed and it didn't stop. The severity would change from day-to-day, and eventually it seemed that it was related to eating carbs. I started on-and-off taking probiotics, but it didn't make a lot of difference. I hoped it would go away over time, it didn't.
During this time I got a STI/HIV test that was all clear. Phew!
A couple of months ago something new happened that was scary. My gums started to sting a LOT. In a couple of days my gums were really sore and receding badly, and were white where the flesh meets the tooth. This panicked me, and the pain was really intense, I could barely eat anything. I did some research and became convinced that this was a fungal infection. I bought some mouth wash that was antibacterial and anti-fungal, and also drank a lot of probiotic yogurt. Within a few days it cleared up and hasn't returned.
Throughout all this my gas continued. Some mornings I was passing wind like 30 times. At this point I stepped up my online research, and my suspicion that this must all be part of a candida infection seemed almost certain.
After looking around I decided to order some Fluconazole. 10x50mg via a dodgy Russian source. :/ I took those about a month ago, 2 per day. It didn't really seem to do much though sadly. So I continued to do some research and found a thread on this site about Lufenuron and Miconazole. So I did as much research as I could and decided to try it.
2 x 9gm Packs of Lufenuron.
3 x Tubes of Daktarin (Miconazole)
Also buying lots of Kefir and probiotics of various types.
I started the regime a few days ago as follows:
Sat: 3g Lufenuron. 2 x Spoons of Daktarin. About 400ml of Kefir.
Sun: 3g Lufenuron. 2 x Spoons of Daktarin. About 400ml of Kefir.
Mon: 3g Lufenuron. 2 x Spoons of Daktarin. About 400ml of Kefir.
Tue (yesterday): 2 x Spoons of Daktarin. About 400ml of Kefir.
I'll be continuing taking the Daktarin and Kefir regimin for the next few weeks. And the second 9gm course of Lufenuron in two weeks from now.
So far it seems to be doing something and I think I'm experiencing 'die-off'. Monday evening I started getting a mild headache and my glands on my neck felt inflamed and tender. Yesterday I woke up with the same headache, and during the day my stomach started to ache. By the evening my body started to feel tender and sensitive. At night my stomach really ached and felt distended. This morning I woke up with the stomach feeling not so bad, but my muscles aching and my mild headache still there. I've also had a lot of mucus in my sinuses the last day or two. I seem to have a bit less gas, but I'm also trying to eat less carbs which may be why.
I'm going to keep this thread updated with my progress over the next couple of weeks. At this point it's too early to say whether this truly is die-off, whether the treatment is working, and therefore whether I even have a Candida overgrowth. However, this has been so troubling to me that I wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else out there.
