Rocky n' I are the thrilled & proud (and exhausted) parents of a new puppy!!! He's a Black Lab & Australian Shepherd mix, and his name is Jake.
We got him February 19th (he was 8 1/2 weeks old), and below are the first pictures we took of him (3 days after we brought him home). He was one scared lil' puppy the first day and half (it was the first time he'd ever been without his litter mates)...but he adjusted like the lil' firecracker he is, really quickly (as you can cleary see):
You KNOW you love this face!
Serious "Puppy Determination!"
VERY happy (but blurry) puppy!
I CAN HAS PULLTOY!!! (vicious puppy "grrrrrrrrrs")
Sneaking up on it!
Jumpin' for it! ('wish I could have captured how high he actually jumped!)
Worryin' it to death :)
Rollin' in the fun!
Seriously handsome boy (with some seriously funky ears!)
Rocky n' I are both animal lovers, and somewhere around 6-7 years ago we lost our beloved dog and two kitties...it totally broke our hearts. We always knew we'd eventually have more pets, but when my mom was disabled by the psych-pharmaceuticals, we had to take care of her cat...so it wasn't until several months ago that we could possibly even consider getting a new puppy. Besides, we didn't know if our hearts were ready for it.
About a week before we got Jake, we had a stray puppy 'make himself at home' in our garage. "Oh no" says we, "not another puppy that's been dumped by their irresponsible owners! We don't possibly have time to deal with this!!!" Where we live, there is no pound/shelter to take abandoned animals - all we can do is ignore them & hope they'll go away (impossible to do when they're obviously hurting and starving), keep them, try to give them away, or call the sherrif...who will kill them. So we fed the stray puppy for a few days, and accidentally (and unknowingly) fell in love with her. But the next day we went out to feed her, and she was 'forever gone' ...she must have been lost, not abandoned. Normally we would have been overjoyed, but when we went outside to look for her and found she was really gone, we both looked at each other and then 'hugged on tight' as we buried our faces in each other's shoulder. Dang! REALLY?! We're heartbroken over that puppy?
Well, since we really do need a 'farm dog' - especially to guard the garden from the rabbits & deer (and other critters)...so we saw an ad & blurry picture on Craiglist...and now we've got ourselves a Jake! :) :) :)
I've got a couple of new videos (my how he's grown!), but for some reason I'm not able to get them load after I upload them to CZ...but stay tuned to this thread, and hopefully I'll get them to work soon!
There's absolutely no doubt about it...happiness IS a warm puppy!!!
