Hi MH,
HELLO
I am buying large amounts of apples
WRONG SEASON, SIMPLY MEANS LOTS OF PESTICIDES/PARPHEIN, ETC....
and oranges
LATE SEASON, BUT PLENTY AVAILABLE MAKE SURE WHERE THEY ARE COMING FROM.
at the moment, mostly for juicing.
Goes down nicely with the adult longevity spices I'm using!
(and, yes, I am one of those who ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT!!)
Unfortunately I do not have much freezing/fridge facilities,
but I live in a coldish climate and my garage seems to act as a cold "store house",
so to speak. So I leave the produce there.
SURE, THAT IS WHAT WE DO.
Just wanted to get your opinion on couple of things please.
You might not know the answers, but I greatly value your opinion.
Sometimes the oranges have some blue mold on them, these I throw away.
YES
However, the apples I buy are "juicing apple" (well, so are the oranges infact),
much cheaper than the "normal"/perfect looking ones, but still taste good.
Cosmetically not that attrative, can have cuts, bug holes etc, personally that doesn't bother me.
SOUNDS LIKE "CIDER" APPLES OR VINEGAR APPLES
However, I have noticed that after a couple of weeks some do seem to rot.
NATURALLY COVERED IN FUNGUS OR WHAT PEOPLE CALL "BACTERIA".
The ones that have sufficient amount of rot are throw in the garden,
SURE
however, the ones that only have a little (and this maybe only bruising too, being "juicing apples"),
SUPER
are they still OK to juice with if I cut that "bad" bit away,
WHEN MAKING OLD TIME CIDER, ALL SUCH APPLES END UP IN THE SOUP..BEES AND ALL, NOT TO MENTION THOSE YUMMY SPIDERS.
or should they be thrown away too, even if only a small "cent" sized area is bad?
IF YOUR HEALTH IS FAIR, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE THIS, BUT KEEP IN MIND, ALL APPLES THAT TOUCHED THE GROUND ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO BE THROWN AWAY BECAUSE OF DEER POOP AKA LYMES DISEASE.
The alternate I was thinking was juicing them all the day I get them (unless you have better suggestion),
as they are all generally good then.
Alot of effort but at least wasteage will go down.
However, if this is the case, and the only storage I have is the cold garage,
how would you suggest I keep them contained?I FREEZE THE JUICE IN 1 GALLON CONTAINERS.
Note: I am using oranges and apples, so once juiced and in a container,
how long would you expect it to keep?
ONCE FROZEN THE JUICE IS GOOD FOR A FEW+ YEARS,
MH
Thanks again,
