I have a goiter which has gotten larger the last two years. I have been on Iodoral for it for many 4 years. Don't know if the Iodoral could have made it larger or not. Could it have? was taking 4 per day. Doc said to stay on it and everything I have read seems to back that up. I tested lower than before on Iodine with the MD's urine test last Winter so upped Iodoral from 4 to 8 per day for one month and had the urine test redone. Iodine came up significantly but not enough. When I tried to put my Iodoral back down to 4 per day after the 2nd urine test I started getting strong, very unpleasant pains in my right breast. It was like clockwork. I take 4 at 7a.m. and 4 at 3p.m. If i missed the 3p.m. dose, within an hour or so I had so much pain! I had not previously had any breast pain like that ever. Within an ;less than an hour after I took the 2nd dose, the breast pain would go awa. I finally told the MD that I could not stop the 8 Iodoral a day because of the pain. He said to stay on the higher dose for 6 months and then retest. It is not quite time to retest yet. I still get breast pain from time to time but it is better that before. I have been painting right breast and underarm with Povodine iodine, too, off and on.

Well about 2 wks ago the breast pain got a little worse for no apparent reason. Frustrated, that it could still hurt when I was taking so much Iodine [scared too] I decided to up does to 10 a day to see what happened. I did this for a couple of days with no problem. I was eating 3 sheets of nori a day at the time, also. I frequently eat 2 or 3 sheets with no problem while taking 8 Iodoral. Have never had a problem. After 2nd day on the 10 Iodoral and the 3 nori, I got raised welts at [I think] lymph node on the outer side of my right elbow, also a feeling that there was an enlarged uncomfortable node in my right armpit, and down the gallbladder acupuncture channel on my right leg I had another couple of nickle sized hard red lumps that I think may have been lymph nodes. I used to get lumps like that sometimes while menstruating, but those were always on the Spleen channel, in the inside of the legs, usually left leg. This was on the right lateral side of leg. It took all these lumps about 4 days to completely go away and stop having any soreness to touch or redness. Since they are gone, I have absolutely no breast pain at all for the first time and I am feeling warmer than my usually nature of always feeling chilly. I stopped Iodoral and nori for two days. I cannot do the Sea Salt thing because the sodium raises my blood pressure. Could the welts that I thought were lymph nodes have been a bromine reaction? I have stayed at the 8 per day level since resuming... a week or so.

After that ?lymph node?/welt on the gallbladder channel episode and elbow,I realized that my stools have been off and on getting more and more gray. I took on cap of something called DEBILE for it last Sat night because could not sleep and had mild flank discomfort. Within a couple of hours stool showed normal color. That last five days and then it went gray again. Makes me think I have a bile problem. Does Iodoral have any impact on gallbladder? Does anyone have any idea if I should still try to raise the Iodoral dose, maybe to 9 instead of 10? The lymph node swelling [if that is what it was] was not pleasant but easily resolved after I put the does back to 8 and stopped eating the nori for a few days. I actually felt much better while I was briefly on the 10 Iodoral. My gut feeling is that the reaction happened because I ate too much nori at one sitting the night before it happened. I usually space it out one sheet after each meal but had been lax and then that night ate all 3 after dinner. I think if I drop the nori of just do 1 sheet a day and move up 9 Iodoral, it might help my body do whatever it is using the iodine for. I want to have my urine test done again at the end of this month, and thoughy I might try to do a push to a little higher dose for this last month. I have read that many people have gotten no problems from taking as much as 135mg a day. I even saw one posting where a woman took 4 Iodoral 4 times a day for 3 wks after doing a Liver Flush and some other things and got rid of a bunch of fibroids. I don't think I will do more than 9 or 10 Iodoral. Anyone have any ideas about this?

It feels so good not to have the breast pain. I have not had the sense until this last week that it was really gone, but I feel that way now. No more dread. Less fear. My goiter is still large. What I think is that my breasts are doing something important with all that iodine to get rid of fibroid conditions,[and other parts of my body may be too]
and that they are grabbing iodine from wherever they can get it to do that work. My theory is that they thyroid is still big because even with the 9 Iodoral the thyroid is still deprived of iodine because other parts of the body are still taking it away form the thyroid. When the work is done or when the whole body is finally getting enough iodine, then I think the goiter will start going down? Is that theory reasonable or am I a nut who is poisoning herself? Feedback from anyone who has insight into this would be much appreciated.What is it is cancer that the body is fighting with the iodine? Can it win?
