I agree with MH, completely.
I had to completely do my home over. I have NO rugs except throw rugs that I can put in to the washing machine with some oils that will kill the pests and their eggs. I use an ozone machine and borax to clean up my home with.
My animals are tiny and need to have my protection and care. Therefore I treat them like humans. The only time I am around civilization with them in the outdoors is when I am on the trail hiking in the woods. Even then I have to deal with ticks and fleas. It's a constant vigil with those things.
If anyone has pets, they have to be treated like humans in order to keep them and ourselves clean. Mine have performed a service to me over the time I have been getting my health back.
Otherwise, my opinion is they belong in the open spaces, in the barn with some hay or outdoors when it's not too cold or too hot for them.
If you're using natural products to keep them from ticks and fleas, what would you do for yourself? If you're using DE, don't breathe it and make sure they don't. It's just common sense.
