my dentist claims there wont be any mercury leakage during the procedure
since the rubber dam covers whole mouth and you breath
through a nose piece.
is that possible?

If the dentist uses an air suction device (vacuum) near your mouth besides the one in your mouth there should be little exposure to mercury.
