Was it an ACTH Cortical Stimulation Test?
That is the only test I know of for this. I had it done once about 10 years ago. What it does is send a message to the Pituitary gland to the adrenals to produce more hormones ( not just cortisone, but all the other hormones too) Interesting, ( I was in stage 1-2 of AF than) the test results came back normal, but most interestingly, I felt about 50% "better" for the next few days. Than gradually I slipped back into feeling ill again.
Apparantly, my adrenals were bad off, but not real bad yet. Because that ACTH injection, sort of was like the whip on a horse, getting it to go. It did for a while, than it was pooped again. I'm sure for a more severe AF patient, whipping a dead horse ( already chronic AF ) would make the problem even worse, as maybe it did in your case. I don't know. BUt, that was my experience.
