I've been trying to get pictures of my Hummingbirds but the little suc***s fly around so fast most times they end up being a blur in the picture.
I took these today at close range hoping to capture some of them. I did get some, but this isn't a good representation of just how many we have because each time I clicked the camera many flew away.

Hi Js. mom,
I love it too when the sun hits them just right, they just sparkle. Sometimes the Ruby Throated ones look purple depending on how the light hits.
I'm going through almost 30 pounds of sugar a week now, I've got 9 feeders and it's all I can do to keep them filled lol. When I got up this morning all but two of the feeders were empty and there were hundreds of birds flying around. I got caught with only one gallon of food made so I had to put just a little in each feeder until I could get more made and cooled. I usually keep 6 gallons in the fridge at all times but I guess I fell down on that job lol!
Wow, 36 degrees! Your Hummers will be leaving very soon I bet. I can't wait for it to get cold. I love to watch the birds and I'm very happy to see them each year but by this time each year I'm so ready for winter so the birds will leave. It's become like a job for me to keep up with feeding them.
Please do post your pictures, I'd love to see them.

Hi Valerie,
Lol, I don't know about prize winning but at least I was finally able to actually take some pics and have the birds be in them. I've been trying for a couple of weeks and all I would get was blurs in the pics because they are so fast.
My husband came up with the idea to hang wires for the feeders so I didn't have to go down in the yard and fill them. We started with just one feeder about 10 years ago and we got up to 15 feeders, I couldn't handle that many so now we're down to 9.
Hummingbirds have always fascinated me. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

Celestial, even with my 9 feeders they fight all the time because the more feeders you put out the more birds will come. There really isn't ever a peaceful time no matter how many feeders I put up. I don't think they know how to share! ;) A couple of years ago I had a bird that was so territorial that he was able to keep every bird away from his feeder for almost a month until all the birds got here, then it was just too tiring for him I guess. I'm very familiar with the bombing tactic lol, they like to attack from behind.
Good luck with your hummers.

Me either Rocky!
You should hear all the noise they make, it sounds like an airport when they're all swarming. And their battle cries are pretty darn loud too lol!
Love hummers, Willow! They're just marvelous little creatures... Thank you for the pics. You are blessed!
-Bundles of little wings!
That is very cool, I've seen videos like that on YouTube.
I have no doubt that I could do that too if I had the time. I can actually stand right next to one of the feeders, as long as I'm still they'll buzz all around me. I don't do that often though because I'm afraid they'll poop in my hair lololol!
Thanks for posting the video, I love watching things like this.
