...strange as it sounds..I was delighted to actually
SEE a Demodex..[two..actually..this one was in a much
better spot for photographing]
seems that humans are mostly "occupied" by two species
of Demodex..D.folliculorum..and D.brevis.
Based on ths size of this ones "abdomen"..about twice
as long as her head/thorax..I tag her as a Demodex follicularum..
every pic of a D.brevis I've seen, the "tail end" is only
about as large as it's "head end"...makes for a better fit
in the sebaceous glands that they prefer.
..I read that the D.folliculorum prefers to live in the
hair follicle..eyelashes are a fav spot to call home.
Interestly enough..I was losing eyelashes..but only on the
left eye..and only on the bottom of the eye. A head scratcher..until I find..the two Demodex..after scraping
the LEFT cheek. ze mystery..is solved..[/Clouseau]
..aside from a few missing eyelashes..I have not detected
any problems from the Demodex critters.
I suspect that the camera is imaging at about 400x using
the bench beast microscope. Really must do a calibration
with the new camera. Only using the 4x and the 10x
objective lenses..the 40 and 100 are..terribly fogged.
One hopes that they are only munged by dry immersion oil..
and I can clean them with something appropriate..[xylene
perhaps..must read up on this..dont want to permatrash
the lenses by hamhanded use of incorrect chemicals..and the
lens cleaning solution and/or alcohol is doing nothing]
**mind fog moment..that passes for inspiration..
[danger, will robinson!]
measured the pic on the monitor..250 mm across ..
think to self: well..Demodex are 200-300 microns..
point 3 millimeter for a fat one..250mm divided by point 3
would be appx 750x....
...noooo...can't do it that way..ya' idjit!..
using that system of measurement you could take a 100x
photo, feed it to a projector..throw the image against
a tall wall..break out a tape measure
and call it a "2,000x photo".
...of all the things I've lost to the Morg..I miss my mind
someday..you bastids will be gone..just you wait..
