The 3 places I've been getting herbs, Monterey Spice Co, San Francisco Herbs, and 1stChineseHerbs all have the American kind at $5 a pound, and the few places I could find online with Chinese wanted $10 a pound.
Anyone have a place that has a better deal?
I've been using the American and I like it.
Is the Chinese worth double? (because it's calming?)
This is the cheapest I could find:

Wow, that's a good deal. Could you use a little of the powder in a cup of tea for sweetener?
If so, someone could make a lot of money selling it as a sweetener.
Thanks.

Yes, it is 50 times sweeter than sugar.
If so, someone could make a lot of money selling it as a sweetener. I think the only reason nobody has done this is the bad reputation licorice root has for raising blood pressure. Although in reality is takes a lot of licorice root and a lot of time to do this.
Licorice as a sweetener which raises blood pressure? Excellent. My BP is typically around 80/50 (at its best) - needs all the raising it can get.
Any idea re: how long lasting the effect might be? Or should one not intentionally try to raise BP in such a way - or at all?
Chronically low blood pressure is indicative of poor adrenal function. Licorice builds up the adrenals anyway, which will help bring the blood pressure up to normal range. As long as you maintain the adrenals, which can be done through a variety of ways your blood pressure will remain normal.
When they say licorice root raises blood pressure they are really referring to the steroidal component of licorice root, which causes potassium depletion and sodium retention. This though is what takes very high doses over 6 months to cause this problem.
You can substitute other flours such as tapioca flour for the wheat flour. Or maybe skip the flour altogether and use arrowroot powder instead.
