The animals are only as good as the food they feed on.
Free range land can be contaminated from many different sources...
Back in the 70's during the gas shortage crisis (it was a manufactured crisis to manipulate prices) ... we would see tanker trucks dumping their petrol out into the desert... letting it soak into the sand\soil... I wouldn't want to eat off of that for a decade or so.
Even wild critters, fish and birds are expressing with an increasing problem of cancers and degenerative diseases... including infertility, etc.
Throw in the dying birds, bees, bats, plummeting fish populations, etc... and we should be taking note as a global community to stop doing those things that cause the problem... starting with banning most of the chemical agrichemicals - this includes those available for homeowners in places like your local hardware store.
I think very few are paying much attention to it, if any.
Free range meats of any kind should always come from local sources if possible.
It would likely be better for you.
Where I am... we have *free range* products that come from Argentina... when there are a dozen free range outfits within a few hours of my home :-\
Nothing makes much sense anymore...
