i sort of sense the stress of EC is effecting you..not to be pessimistic but some people have had this for decades. They've been to dermatologists/doctors and have tried the conventional and through their own research have tried the unconventional.


can you remember how Exfoliative Cheilitis started?.. Also i've noticed some people on here are from India, which is a hot country. I thought EC was more likely to effect someone in cold countries. Would there be any clues in that?

i EC think this is due to a fungus(dermatophyte) that feeds on keratin(dead skin) for nutrients and the skin reacts by producing more keratin, thus why we get the overgrowing. This is the same type of fungus that you find in the nails and causes nail fungus. I believe adding moisture only masks the problem after years of trial and error. Fungus love moist areas. I think the cause is located in the mouth. When you put on creams they will make your lips feel/look better no doubt but it won't stop the overgrowing skin, which is the primary problem.


thats why to me a logical cure is to use something alkaline and an exfoliant to keep the skin down. If dishwashing soap is not your thing, then try wash soap. For an exfoliant try vinegar. To keep your lips soft is the difficult part. Vaseline traps in moisture or traps out moisture, but it can keep the lips soft. if you can find something that doesn't moisturize the lips but keeps them soft, please inform me. I'm thinking Urea, because its toxic to fungus but i don't know it would be a guess.

have your doctors/dentist tested your oral health?

if your rich, well you could afford a CT Scan to check if your organs are working correctly, to see if one is over-functioning, in Ayurvedic Medicine they say the lips are connected to the spleen and caused by an over heated spleen. Of course that isn't easy to test.

anyway good luck on your treatments, this forum goes back 5 years, so you can see. I mean most people have been given steroid creams and not one has claimed to be cured off of it. Apart from 1 i can think of.
