Hi all, was thinking again about this respect/fear confusion that arises in English, in relation to God, and came across this--just thought some might be interested in adding it to their collection of holy texts. Personlly, I'm interested in getting as close as possible to the langauge Jesus spoke, and this looks just priceless.

You know, I used to read *a lot*. my mother was a voracious reader too, she could read a couple novels a day. But I haven't read any fiction for years. Mainly these days I write. I did try to read something online yesterday, and it's not a pleasant experience.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,488,069When I read things that are unpleasant to me that people write, I have a tendency to feel drained. I realized the majority of that was my inner thoughts about the person who wrote them.
How many people on curezone do we keep stored in our brain/hearts, negative thoughts about? I bet we all have quite a few. Only when we really love them and release them from our ideas of how perfect they should be at this point in their lives, do we feel at ease ourselves.
No, we are not perfect but I hope we are all striving to go that direction.

WHY not just focus elsewhere???

Di, I read a few other versions of this passage, and this one sounds very odd to my ear...sort of hell and brimstone...where's it from?
Edit:
I'll add that I've done some more reading and I see how the translation of "stumbling others" arises, out of the word for blameless...and I do grasp the spirit of it more keenly.
Anyway, thanks for the thought therein! I do appreciate the passage, especially as I've seen it otherwise interpreted. I note with a great feeling of Aha, that "this is my body", may very well be properly considered as "this, my body".

You will NEVER find me advocating overly judgemental, inaccurate interpretations of God's word.
His cardinal qualities of power, justice, wisdom, and love ALWAYS work in full harmony with each other and for the good of all creation.
Questioning of that premise is what got Satan he Devil into the pickle he is now in!!!! Those bitter, critical interpretations come from him and those knowlingly or unknowingly following him, "disguising themselves as angels of light"
(2 Corinthians 11:13b-15a) . . .such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness.. . .
All this being said, God DOES have standards, requirements to be his friend. As sovereign of the Universe, this is his right! Do you not think so?

There is a lot of free interlinear info if U search the Internet.
Hebrew and Greek, also.
Also, access to many diff translations.
I also own two Geek interlinear New Testaments, Vine's Expository Dictionary of New testament Words, Nelson's Expository Dictionary of the Old Testament.
All these tools can help us "make sure of the more important things."
And this is what I continue praying, that YOUR love may abound yet more and more with accurate knowledge and full discernment; that YOU may make sure of the more important things, so that YOU may be flawless and not be stumbling others up to the day of Christ, and may be filled with righteous fruit, which is through Jesus Christ, to God’s glory and praise.
(Philippians 1:9-11)
