I understand that, however, when I made the post I realized that a few hours had passed and Katie probably didn't have HCl handy. Rather than delaying for a few more hours, I figured she would be better off getting something into the infected area immediately using what she had on hand.
I might add that I have used ASC successfully with puncture wounds several times. I flush the area out with the ASC solution, then cover it with a cotton ball saturated with ASC. While not "ideal," this method does seem to work in minor cases.
After reflecting on this, I should have advised her to begin first aid treatment using ASC while she ran to the store to pick up some HCl. Then advised her to switch over to CD technology for further treatment.
