I like it. Wouldn't want a digital one. Why? I don't know, it seems unnecessary, and I guess I like the old way. As to wanting one that goes higher, I'm not sure a person would need it. Sadly, I haven't found anything higher than 14, so far.

Even more important that the exact percent brix is how sharp/clear or fuzzy/hard-to-read each sample is.

Also, you only need 0-32%. You can dilute the fluid and do the math for higher percent readings, especially since the degree of fuzziness is far more important that the exact percentage of the reading. Search for some of Moreless' past posts on this to find out how to do it.

When I bought my refractometer two years ago, they were available for under $30 US on ebay. Search past posts, there are several threads discussing sources with links to sellers back then.

What you need is:

0-32%
ATC [automatic temperature compensation]

Best to get a metal body. Some are plastic and might break if dropped. They are not enough cheaper to put up with that risk.

A carrying case is nice. They come both as a soft pouch and a hard plastic case. There are pros and cons to each option, so choose what best suits your needs. Mine has a hard plastic case with a foam insert to hold the refractometer, a syringe, and an adjusting screwdriver. I really have liked it a lot.
