I was at a Pure Romance party over the weekend, and the person demo'ing the products was an OBGYN surgical something-or-other in her day job. Discussion came to personal lubricants and she said that pregnant women shouldn't use silicone based lubricants because it can get up into the uterus and loosen the placenta, causing miscairrage. Maybe off topic, but interesting I thought, since Mirena contains silicone (mixed with the fake progesterone) that may or may not get released into our bodies. In any case, probably best to steer clear of silicone-based products for "down there" in case that has been causing symptoms for us.
I have been going through this Mirena roller coaster since January. I'm much better but not 100% yet. I follow these posts daily and it's helped so much. After all the comments about silicone, I just have a thought. I have been using a silicone scar treatment on my c-section scar since Dec. Do you think that could also be contributing to these side effects. Just a thought...any ideas??? Thanks!
From what I understand, the molecular structure of silicone cannot seep through the skin-its too big. If it could, most of our deodorants, lotions, etc would be suspect-it's in many of them. Unless your scar was an open wound, i think it would be unlikely. I had the same thought initially and looked into it....
Thanks mamaj, you've always been such a great source of info! I was using silicone scar sheets on my scar 24/7 for few months and now I'm using a gel silicone once a day. All this talk about silicone on here and I just realized now about these scar treatments! Ugh........ Blame it on the brain fog!
