Starting fast number 5 today. Over the last year I fasted 4 times. With that and some exercise I lost 65 pounds, from 250 to now 185. Pant size went from 48/50 to 32.
I am male, 30, 5'10", medium bone build.
Fast 1: 32 days 250 to 210 up to 225 . day 1 - 3 hard, caffeine addiction is kicking,
Sugar addiction is screaming. After that no hunger till day 32. did not fast to completion.
Few month go by, attend the gym, eat properly
Fast 2: 10 days do not really know the weight change. not to completion. no feelings of hunger.
A month goes by, attend the gym, eat properly
Fast 3: 17 days do not really know the weight change. no feelings of hunger.
Few months go by, attend the gym, eat properly
Fast 4: 28 days 205 to 172 reefed to 185. i think true hunger came on the night of the day 29. Could not sleep. made soup at 2 am.
A month goes by, eat mostly soups. No gym. weight stable.
Today is a new fast. Planing for 30 days, pant size 30
plan for weight to go from 185 to 155 - 160 and up to 165 - 170 with refeeding.
So, all n all, wanted to share a few findings that apply to me and might apply to some others.
1) I exit my fasts with broths / soups now. I found that exiting with juice, while fine, still leaves me wanting after an extended fast. Maybe it is because I like soups. idk. Worked every time starting from fast 2.
On day 1 I would make veggie broth, save the veggies after drinking the broth and add them to soup on day 2. Use a blender / mixer to liquefy the veggies. Starts my digestive track fast. On day 2-3 I add frozen spinach to the soup after blending. right back in the pot. Spinach is a mild veggie, but allows the intestines to grab onto something. day 3-4 I stop blending soups. One problem with soups is that bowel movement happens like 5 times a day, and it is always quite a bit, because I eat about a gallon of soup a day. since veggie soups have like no calories. (cabbage/broccoli/cauliflower, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, herbs, salt/pepper, chard/mustard greens, in that que)
2) on day 2 - 3 I also add whole milk plain organic yogurt. adds really good digestive bacteria to the intestinal tract. Those that can get kefir I also recommend that.
3) This applies to some people. Not to others. I do not recommend drinking distilled water anymore while fasting. I drank only distilled water for 2 - 3 years prior to finding about fasting. So on the first go I used that. I developed foot pains close to the end of my fast. Plantar fasciitis type. Sharp pain when waking up in the morning. I did not think the two were related because I've been drinking distilled for years prior to that. Same thing happened on my 2nd fast. pain in my feet, one foot stronger than the other. after refeeding it passed after a month or so.
Same thing on 3rd fast, exept now I got pain in my shoulder also. very strange pain, as I have not lifted anything heavy.
Paid no attention. feet pain passed. shoulder pain stayed.
Fast #4. started fasting, shoulder pain became worse right away
My father is prone to gout, and it is genetic. So I approached it from that angle. Did not want to take his meds, but found that gout forms when uric acid crystals form on joints. Uric acid is usually washed out. Distilled water has high acidity. Body in ketosis can not get rid of uric acid fast enough if you drink distilled. Your blood Ph stays pretty much the same. But intracellular liquids can change their ph quite a bit.
So I crushed some calcium tablets, mixed in a glass and drank. Switched to filtered water, and pain became milder, now after a month after the end of that fast it is gone pretty much.
That is it.
