Have you tried coconut? I, too, have IBS-D and imodium was about all that helped me---and sometimes it didn't work. Then I read an article in an on-line newsletter I used to get that discussed IBS. The article said that people had great success by eating 2 teaspoons of flaked coconut a day. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I gave it a try. I was so surprised and pleased that it worked! Also, you could take 2 tablespoons of coconut oil each day. These days I do a combination of the two---I put a tablespoon of coconut oil in my morning oatmeal. In the evening, I eat 1 teaspoon of flaked coconut and take 2 coconut oil capsules rather than the oil. Let's face it---coconut oil doesn't go well with everything.
I have an additional problem. My IBS-D worsened after my gallbladder was removed. Finally, last year, my doctor really listened and prescribed Prevalite which binds the bile to it thus preventing diarrhea.
However, even before I got the Prevalite prescription, I had great success with coconut.
Also, my husband who has a touch of IBS-D, has found that coconut has tremendously helped him. He hates coconut and will only take the capsules. He takes the recommended amount---4 capsules a day. Sometimes he still gets diarrhea so I think he could add some flaked coconut to his diet but he won't...
