Hi JustinL,
Your comment: Hay is getting expensive around here ! Especially the small bails, they will run 4 or 5 bucks a piece if you can get them!
I was fortunate in meeting a guy who has a few horse and he had a these bails in his barn, they are few years old but they have been inside so I am assuming they will be fine as far as nutrient loss goes! He asked me if I wanted some manure for the garden ,he was kind of shocked when I told him no! I don't believe my garden needs any more high nitrogen fertilizers, at least not now.
Answer: If you have some area where you may want to plant a garden next year where it is in need of Improving that you are not planting a garden in this year, you may apply the manure and let weeds grow and work them in each month and this may set this up Better for next year to grow a garden?
If one applies some manure a year ahead of time and allow the weeds to take this up and work the weeds into the soil to feed the soil Life we may be able to speed up soil Improvement?
The Key is not using any Fresh Manure in the same year we want to grow our food to eat, for Fresh Manure may cause the plants to contain Potassium Nitrate(NPN)?
Cause and Effect !
Smile Tis your choice.
