Regular licorice root. DGL is for treating ulcers.
Licorice root will only cause high blood pressure if taken in very high doses (50g/day) over many months. Licorice root contains a steroidal compound similar to cortisone. Like steroid drugs it can cause potassium loss and sodium retention leading to high blood pressure. Again though only in very high doses over a long period of time. To reduce the risk though a person can increase their potassium intake while using licorice root. Orange juice, kiwis, strawberries, and ripe bananas are all good potassium sources. Nettle leaf is also a good source, and it also supports the adrenals. Nettle leaf also contains sterols that help to lower blood pressure.
