I posted here years ago now, as my son lost all his body hair. Alopecia Universalis I, believe it is called. We went through all the traditional avenues....doctors, minoxidil, steroids. Little, if any, progress from any. This has been nearly 3 years now, mind you. We went the alternative direction and have been trying herbal remedies for a long time now.
This past spring, we saw good growth, and it seemed we were on the right track. But, now, months into fall and winter, that growth has all but disappeared.
My wife went to a doctor for her thyroid condition. Blood work had been done, and it showed she was very vitamin D deficient. Conversation turned to our son, and this elderly doctor told her something we'd never heard in these years of trying to figure this out. It could very simply be vitamin D deficiency.
We've started to give him supplements, but I wanted to post my findings here, and see if anyone had any insights on this? From what I've been reading, it seems that vitamin D deficiency in children has been a fairly recent hot topic, including a NY Times article on it.
Thanks for any input.
