So how did you come in contact with sand flies? Anyway, there have been numerous treatments designed for this disease, including photodynamic and cryotherapy. The latter used for treatment of external tissues, obviously.
It seems that many strains are becoming resistant to drug treatments.
The latest trend is to treat with anti fungal drugs like amphotericin B, depending on the type of infection; visceral or cutaneous.
My understanding is that 'miltefosine' has a high success rate {95%}. Another typical drug is called "pentamidine isethionate".
The drug of choice however, is "itraconazole" or sporanox. This seems be have the best results from what I can see. Shroom
