I work outside the home as well. In the morning, I make lots of fresh juice, drinking my breakfast juice and pour the rest into pre-chilled thermoses, filling each to the top, then sealing them. I use single serving thermoses and take four or five with me to the office. I keep these in the fridge till I use them. This blocks light and limits oxygen, delaying the oxidative reaction that kills off the enzymes.
One can see the "browning" reaction when juices oxidize, for instance, if you drink half your juice and leave the rest on the counter for an hour or so. That signals that the beneficial enzymes have been compromised.
Keeping the juices in thermoses prevents the browning, so I am confident that I'm not losing too much vitality with this method.
I find that adding a Tbs of molecularly distilled fish oil (no mercury) to the juice helps me absorb the beta carotene and other oil soluble vitamins in the juices. Vitamins A, D, E & K need oil to be properly assimilated by the body. If you are a vegetarian, you can add flax oil instead.
I save the fiber from my
juicing and make a "stew" with pure water, 1/4 cup ground flax seed, fresh minced garlic or ginger and the pulp. I cook it for a few minutes to soften it, then squeeze lemon and sprinkle kelp granules over it for a satisfying evening meal. This fiber is a mop, absorbing toxins in the body to help excretion. The lemon, garlic and ginger add flavor and are cleansing. The flax adds fiber, oils and a bit of protein. The kelp adds sea minerals. It helps me remain satisfied, so I'm not tempted to snack in the evening.
Eating the pulp & flax keeps my bowels moving naturally. I don't believe in extended laxative use. We need to keep the muscles in the digestive tract active and toned or we will have problems later. The small amount of fat and protein keep the metabolic processes active, making it easier to return to a normal diet when you choose to.
My thought is that a juice fast is a time of focus on assimilation of vitamins and minerals, a time to cleanse the by products of animal protein or other unhealthy food products from our bodies. It is nourishing and cleaning. And it need not interfere with normal life.
My energy remains high, I excercise and remain fit even on an extended regimine. I did this for 90 days one summer and emerged fit, functional and glowing. My skin fit my body, my muscle tone was superb and my skin color and tone were fabulous.
