I agree, less is more.
It sounds to me like the OP went into the fast all wrong. What you do before the fast is more important than what you do during the fast, since in reality there's not much to do during a fast.
First of all, it's a good idea to go vegan for a few days before the fast, or do juice fasting. The practical reason for this is to flush out the intestines. During the fast, peristalsis will become reduced or possibly cease entirely. This means that anything that hasn't been evacuated out the rectum will begin to rot inside of the gut, since rotting is the "next best" way to make that stuff disappear once evacuation has stopped.
So you want something that rots really well, when it comes down to it. Fruits are usually good at this because they can be used to flush out the digestive tract and they have a very quick rate of digestion.
There is a
Science to all of this, you know. Willpower can be good for headbutting your way through things. But fasting is much easier once the mechanics are understood and practiced.
As far as the vitamins go, I wouldn't recommend taking them during the fast. The point is to get things out, not in. After the fast you can drink all the green smoothies you want. You will have vitamins in abundance. For now, less really is more.
