When I did my searching on the internet, I felt it was safe for every night (but I'm not a doctor). I also discussed it with the sleep specialist MD I saw who did my sleep study. He felt it was a good choice and safe. I have not had any problems with it, except when I've tried to take anti- parasite
herbs the GABA seems to interact with them and I have had some bad reactions. I stopped the parasite
herbs and have continued with the GABA.
I've been taking it every night for maybe a year now and it's been fine otherwise. You may also wish to try some sleep products that have valerian root in them.
I am not familiar with the sleep drugs, but it's usually my preference to handle things naturally as I tend to experience less side effects and I find there is often less stress on the liver, etc.
If you do look for a natural formula with valerian, there are some natural things I decided to stay away from. For example 5htp, as many folks get some problems from it. I also decided against melatonin as people with autoimmune problems should not take it. I also decided against st. johns wort as I felt there were some potential problems with that too, as I did my research. Personally I would avoid a formula that included those things.
I also think it's important with sleep disorders to work on health overall and I'm hoping to get at the root cause of my sleep problems. I've also done a lot of work on possible physical, emotional and spiritual roots. I always believe that if possible, get to the root cause. If I need relief from symptoms along my path to healing, then I go for it.
Hope this helps!
