Of course our local farmers markets are closed for the winter, but we go to a farmers market that is open all year long. I have a favorite vender there too, but I must say the quality isn't the same as the one I go to in the summer...of course that has something to do with the time of year as well.
I buy my weekly supply of spinach from this year long farmers market and you can easily see the diffence in their spinach (large leaves, deep, deep green pigment and firm) compared to that of what's in the stores (light green, floppy leaves and small). Unfortunately, I only have a couple weeks left of being able to buy this spinach for the year.
By the way, my favorite producer from our local summer farmers market is from Germany and he was talking to me about how he feeds the micro organisms in the soil each year....he's definitely doing something right by the quality of produce he makes...I wish there were more like him out there.
