Sorry Hanna, I just saw your post. Sometimes I don't get notices.
Yes, it is very interesting, and I keep learning as I go along as well.
The Liver Pathways Detox test is one you have to get through an ND. The one the ND had me do was through Metametrix. It involves taking a couple of Tylenol, and a couple of Aspirin at bedtime, and urinating in a collector bottle through the night and first thing in the am.
The 2nd part of the test is taking a Nodoz in the Am, and doing a saliva test one hour later, and 6 hours after that.
You send the specifimens off to the lab yourself, overnight.
It took about 3 weeks to get the results back, but my results are showing that the "Phase 1" pathway, which converts the toxins into liquid..is working fast.
The toxins are then sent "down the detox river" to Phase 2...and that's where my problem is at. My Phase 2, where the toxins are supposed to be eliminated....has a dam in it. The toxins are backing up instead of being eliminated as they are supposed to be.
The test results say:
"Risk of carcinogenesis is increased due to higher rates of accumulation of toxic intermediates." In other words...risk of cancer is increased because the toxins are being backed up.
I'm what is called a "Pathological Detoxifier"...sounds like a life sentence...but now I'm understanding better what the reason is for my liver to continue to make stones (after gallbladder surgery 2 years ago).
Specific supplements are needed, depending upon which pathway isn't working right (there are actually 6 of them), which makes it sound more confusing, but it helped to print out the liver information and get a better understanding of how the processes work..I'll give you a link to read...
Specific amino acids, antioxidants, and B vitamins are some of the main supplements used to help get the liver detox functions working like they should. Milk thistle is one of them, as is the choline and inositol found in Lecithin.
I had started taking supplements on my own, the Livatone Plus from Sandra Cabot (The Liver Dr) is supposed to be for helping Phase 1 and Phase 2 liver functions. I didn't know that when I was taking them.
It can be different for each person, but I'd highly recommend that anyone that is having liver problems have the test done to know for sure what is lacking (and hopefully the help of a good ND)
I've had to keep doing the Liver Flushes
regulary for the past 14 months (every 2 weeks, sometimes sooner), and can feel when I need to flush again. I couldn't figure out why my liver has continued to make stones. Now I know.
I can compare it to my father's septic system....when it backed up, he had the septic tank pumped out, and thought that would do the trick...and the septic tank immediately filled up with water again, and wasn't draining.
When we dug up his drain pipe, it had rusted through and caved in--nothing was going through, so it continued to back up in the tank.
Same thing with my liver with the "dam in the detox river"--that's how my ND expressed it...it's like beaver's have put sticks in the pathway, and I need to knock down their dam before the river will flow on through and not continue to back up.
It also has made the perfect "resort" area for the parasites- which further blocked up my liver, so that has been a big part of getting it unclogged too.
It is a learning process though, you are right.
