I think the recovery time is different for everyone. Like you, I've heard of people who have had laprascopic surgery (I assume that's what you had?) who are back to themselves in no time. On the flip side, I've heard of other people who have had a slow recovery--including a friend of mine. When I had mine out, it was right before laprascopic surgery became common so I had the large incision. It was 2 weeks before I felt like I had any energy again. For example, just taking a shower wore me out. Plus I wasn't sleeping well since my incision area was very tender and finding a comfortable sleeping position was tough.
My advice to you is to not force it. Don't go back to work until you feel 100%. Everyone is different when it comes to recovery. Sometimes I think it has nothing to do with how otherwise healthy you were before the surgery. A friend's husband had his out and recovered quickly. However, shortly after his surgery, he was diagnosed with cancer (had nothing to do with the gallbladder). I could go on with more examples of how different people recovered from the surgery. What I've found is that no 2 people are alike.
