Hi Tracy. Actually, it is too soon to tell how I'm doing from the cleanse. I've had very severe IBS from the time I was a teenager until I was 37 (I'm 38 now.) In December 2001, I went to a health spa for two weeks and became vegan. I immediately eliminated all beef, chicken, pork, soda, coffees, teas, and cut back on all processed foods. It was amazing that within 24 hrs. of starting on this diet (and an amazing sugar/caffeine withdrawal), I began to feel like I was 18 years old again. All of my symptoms disappeared.
Over the last year, I've maintained this regimine, but have added seafood back to my diet and ONCE IN A WHILE, will have a bit of milk (but I always pay for the milk products). My IBS symptoms have practically disappeared. Prior to this lifestyle change, I couldn't eat out in a restaurant without my Lactaid & Immodium, and even then I didn't know if I'd be ill and be laid up in the restaurant restroom for the following two hrs.
I know that I still have an IBS colon, but I believe that the total elimination of caffeine has settled my stomach, and that there is something in animal products that my body has difficulty digesting.
I'd be happy to discuss this with you further. Jess
