I would recommed you take a few yoga classes just to get the basics clear. Just squeeze in time to practice it every single day.
Then, I would start searching online in my local library for Yoga dvds. Watch them and see if they are do-able. Do them in the privacy of your home. Thats what I like to do.
I also like to invert my upper body from a ottoman I have. Gives me a real good back stretch and helps in de-compressing the spine.
