First things first: Ref Chlorella and Spirulina-
I'd still use them if they worked for you before, however neither one will 'replace' the Kelp.
IOW Kelp has nutrients (Particularly trace minerals) which neither Chlorella nor Spirulina possess, although C and S are both great foods. BTW, *if* the Chlorella you have is Sun Chlorella, I'd make sure you do take it, as the Sun stuff got results for me that no other brand of Chlorella has done..
Now onward- The CancerWeasels, Inc. crowd have got everybody scared into "lump consciousness". *Stop* sweating it.
This is what happened to me with the Kelp:
First, as I said before, was the 'vaccuum effect', which was immediate.
About 2 or 3 days after this started, my Thyroid did indeed swell (Into my throat, not visible from outside), got pretty sore (Like a sore throat), and just about every morning, the soreness would increase until the release of a particularly dense phlegm, which coughing was mostly able to expell. This went on for awhile (weeks), then began to back off. Then the swelling/soreness/strange mucus quit.
Then I noticed an intermittent fever (Felt like a hot flash?) which only lasted for minutes, at first about twice a day, then less frequently.
I could tell my girl was trying to rev up :-). It was (and is) a good thing.
The 'sudden fever' business is lessening every day now, and I can feel it blending into a faster metabolism, as has always been normal for me.
So, not to worry. Take ya Kelp (As long as it's *just* Kelp with nothing else added) and count ya Blessings :-).
I started out taking 2-3 teaspoons of granulated Kelp per day. It's better to space out the Kelp into several smaller than to lump it into one.
Um, about those Kelp tablets you're taking-- That Iodine ratio sounds awfully high. Do they have something in them other than unadulterated Kelp? I'd check that- It makes a big difference if there's anything other than Kelp in there.

What I would do is look at the tablets, see how many you'd have to squash to get 1/4 teaspoon of powder, then take that many tablets at a time, maybe twice per day to start, then ramp it up over a few days to where it feels right. Muscle-test to get the quantity, if you have to.
If you are in the USA, Pickling Lime is available in Publix grocery, and at Walmart, however it may be a seasonal item and there are other folks here who can tell you where to get it online (Ebay I think)..
Yes, you can make the drink without the Pickling Limewater until you find the Pickling Lime.
You mentioned that you juice- That's excellent, keep it up :-). It'll do you tremendous good, and make all improvement much easier.
I take the Drink once or twice per day, depending on how I feel.. Some folks take it more, some take it only once. It's better to drink it over time than to chug it down all at once.
Also, taking 1 *small* pinch of Epsom Salts with each meal will help your system detox.
