Hi there, I'm a new member and I'm currently on day 1 of an open-ended water fast, and by that I mean I dont have a set time scale for how long it will last, but it will be a MINIMUM of 7 days. I know I can do 7 days as I have done 7 days before, I have done many, many shorter fasts (3-5 days), but I have never gotten past 7 days and I am extremely curious to see what the results will be for my body. Its been quite a while since my last fast, probably close to one whole year. I have been preparing for this fast by eating healthily, cutting out junk food and dairy, and doing several 'mini-fasts' lasting on average 24 hours.
The main things I hope to achieve from this fast are:
A sense of control and self-mastery - my confidence has taken a few knocks lately due to personal matters, its been a heavy-going past 5 months or so and I'm determined to get back on form both physically and mentally.
Clearer skin - all my life I have had clear skin, but for some strange reason (doctors haven't yet been able to tell me why) I suddenly began to develop facial
Acne last autumn (I am 20 years old), perhaps it was due to stress, who knows. It came and went, never too bad, but by winter it was there all the time and gradually became more and more severe. I am currently at the beginning of a course of prescription medication for it and due to that and healthy eating its not too bad, but i'd really like to see it GONE. Can this be done? I dont know, I certainly think that a good cleansing of my body and mind will at least help alleiviate it. The good thing is my medication is designed to be taken on a completely empty stomache so my fasting will not interfere with my course of medication. I'd always advise anyone on medication to speak to a doctor first about how fasting might affect their treatment - i'm not saying let them talk you out of it, not at all, but get some advice and information.
Okay, so I plan to update daily at least :), give myself something to do to distract myself from eating!
