Adding anything to a fast apart from water is feeding and classified as a reducing diet.
Common table salt (sodium chloride) is a poison anyway and to be avoided at all costs.
Why do you suppose you feel thirsty after a salty snack? A. The body recognizes it as a poison and demands more water to expel it.
Sodium chloride is just not the way to get the sodium your body needs.

In my own view and that of many others, sodium chloride (common table salt ) is an inorganic mineral that is not utilized by the body, but instead will only add to its toxemic state.
What our bodies need is sodium "salts" from plants that have metamorphosed the inorganic sodium into an organic compound, which is then bio-available to the body.
Of course salty snacks (sodium chloride) will make you thirsty; that is why they sell them at the bar in a typical english pub: this will make you drink more of the behind the counter brewery-drinks, which in turn will increase their profits!!!!!!
The best advice I can give to anyone is to read Paul Braggs Book "The Miracle of Fasting" Pages 14 to 23 on the use of salt.
You could be amazed.........as I was.

This is a reply to # 1,135,241Dr. Brownstein tried being a "good doctor" by following what he learned in medical school: patients with hypertension should significantly reduce salt intake.
the good doctor got upset when this did not result in a drop of blood pressure.
His research led him to supplement those patients with Sea Salt which has over 70 vital minerals. The results were extremely positive...lower blood pressure with roughly a teaspoon of Sea Salt a day.
Since this flies in the face of conventional wisdom, I would think it would spark some interest in this forum, since we all probably have little respect for modern medicine to a large extent.
Furthermore Dr. Brownstein found great improvement in many of his other patients, for instance, many of his fibromalgia patients found amazing relief of their issues by supplementing Sea Salt . Now, I'd bet that fasting would have been even better, but the sea salt is medicine. Processed salt, I will agree with you. Stay away from it.- Re: Salt water flush while fasting? bling

I agree with you Golthing. I used to take it for adrenals, and my blood pressure was a bit on the low side. I also used to get terrible cramps, especially at night, and my feet felt cold to the touch. I've had cold feet for as long as i remember. A sign of bad circulation maybe.
A week on Seasalt , regulated my blood pressure to normal, got rid of my cramps, and my feet actually felt warm to the touch. I get annoyed when doctors tell people no salt, it should be have the right type of salt.

Sea Salt is just not the same type of sodium salts as common table salt (sodium Chloride) which is basically regarded as a poison within Natural Hygiene circles.
Paul Bragg was also referring to the habit of consuming common table salt as well.
Sea salt is definitely a good addition to anyones diet and comes highly recommended.

This is a reply to # 1,135,806That is interesting and worth investigating golthing. But as salt or medication it shouldn't be added to a water fast. I believe it would be dangerous to do so unless under an experienced fasting superviser.

I had some heavy detox problems during one fast, where my kidneys and bladder were burning most likely from the toxins they were working overtime to remove. An Epsom Salt bath seemed to eliminate the pain. I don't know if it was the salt or the warm bath or the combo?- Re: Salt water flush while fasting? Fonty

This is a reply to # 1,137,178I would never give up the chance for a swim in the ocean! :) And I'm sure that although the salts are definitely absorbed through the skin to some extent it would be far less than could be the case when drinking it down or taking it in the other end. I do find a hot bath eases quite a few of my fasting aches though I don't use salts so it could well just be the hot water.

This is a reply to # 1,137,178I don't think swimming in the ocean will allow very much absorption of salts, and therefore nothing to be overly concerned about, but I would be more concerned about the pollution that may also be absorbed thru the skin as a result.
Warm to hot water baths are known within Natural Hygiene circles to be extremely good for alleviating aches and pains, but an Epsom Salt bath will allow much absorption of magnesium thru the skin, which is beneficial nutritionally.
I am not of the opinion, one way or the other, whether that is a good practice while fasting or not.

I totally disagree with the posters saying not to SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) when fasting....are you kidding me? It's a perfect match. Your body is not going to CONTAIN the water, it is IMMEDIATELY "flushed", hence the name.
Fasting is something I've done for nearly 20 yrs or more. Up to 20 days and that one was when sick.
The last fast (I am on day uno now but since it is Easter will probably stop and start Monday or Tuesday instead)....but I digress. On the last fast of 10 days I did a Salt Water Flush every morning of 2 8-oz glasses with the required teaspoon of salt per 8 ozs (I think, don't remember for sure....go to SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) boards) AND then I did The Master Cleanse of the solution of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne. It was GREAT. My body responded extremely well, loved it, in fact. I had energy like gangbusters. Quiets the mind and soul. Gives the digestion system a good rest.
The reason the body "flushes" in the SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) is that the elimination system works sort of like hydraulics....pressure. When you drink the qt of SWF mix it puts pressure on the "plumbing" and you go to the bathroom rather quickly. Then once the system is totally cleaned out and stabilized, The Master Cleanse really works well.

I just started the mastercleanse today. I was put off SWF, by people saying they needed the toilet urgently etc. I don't want a problem if i have to go out. I have no problem with the salt itself. I take Seasalt anyway, not normally during fast though.
2 x 8oz, thought it was a quart 2pts, so that's 4 x 8oz, right. Anyway i might do it further along if i feel i need it.
I'm glad you had good experience on the Mastercleanse, what i have noticed so far is, on my last short waterfasts i got very acidic, and felt uncomfortable, and that was from the first day, well i haven't noticed that today, so that is a good sign.
I do plan to go over to water in a few days, or if i really like doing this, i will maybe do this for my first long fast, and do water next time, as i'll be more cleansed out.
My first day nearly over, well in 2 hrs, started about tenish last night. I can have a lax tea, and have some colonix tea left over, contains senna and lots of detox herbs, and tastes good.
It is nice you can have something different to just water, but i know the ultimate fast is water, well probably dry fasting actually, but i've no plans to do that. But working toward the long waterfast. You say it quietens the mind, so anxiety is less? I hope so.

well this is a post from a SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) Ignoramus.
I do not agree personally with the SWF, and that is the consensus amongst any experienced & qualified Natural Hygienists, who are historically, by far the most experienced personnel with fasting and fasting supervision.
The high dose sodium in a SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) can cause problems.............
"Excessive sodium intake causes your body to release calcium and this can put some people, especially those with a history of kidney stones, at risk to develop another one. Currently, the National Kidney Foundation recommends that people with a history of kidney stones limit their sodium intake to between 2000 and 3000 mg per day. That's less sodium than is in a single salt water flush."...........

The greatest benefits from water/dry fasting are by non-interference: it is the most efficient way of cleansing supplied by Nature. Where, for example, do animals in the wild receive their SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) while fasting or feeding? Nature considers it to be superfluous.

Must take exception with the discussion of the SWF. The main problem with it described here is the uptake of sodium. If we took in the salt added to the flush then I would agree with you. However,
A SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) is Sea Salt added to luke warm water. Its purpose in the flush is to create the needed gravity to move the water quickly through the digestive track. Salt and warm water combine to flush the system in a way that prevent absorption of the salt OR the water. So the concern over the sodium is irrelevant.
Now in fairness I am not a scientist or medical practitioner of any kind. This information has been gleaned from much research. It is quite possible that it was all a pack of lies, but that is the principle. I don't think anyone would condone the ingestion of so much sodium, and certainly not on any kind of fast.

This is a reply to # 1,140,551I don't doubt that most of the sodium is flushed through as it is supposed to be. To be so sure that none of it stays behind I think is a bit overconfident in the process. They said that and some still do about vitamin pills too- expensive urine- what you don't need just gets passed out again. But others say that too much of some vitains will damage your body and that taking overdoses isn't good, so who to believe? I know that fasting makes absorption of everything faster and more efficient and it's not an experiment I would be willing to take. And again it just isn't needed so why risk it in the first place.
