Years ago, we had a friend on kidney dialysis. He explained how osmosis works.
Two bodies of water, with only a pinprick hole between the containers, will automatically balance the substances dissolved in one or both...molecularly.
This is a natural characteristic of water.
Since there is water within us, and water vapor in the air; and since our skins have microscopic holes (pores), osmosis is going on all the time.
Again, two adjoining sinks of water (one salty and the other plain), with a pinhole between (below both waterlines), will be equally salty by morning.
As I understand it...
The human body has perfect water within the cells; and lymph fluid around the cells which contains the materials now being processed.
(If the lymph fluid becomes seriously unbalanced in content, the body will sacrifice cells by dumping their perfect water content into the lymph to dilute it. We have trillions of cells, but there is a limit to how many cells we can lose without suffering.)
A one percent (1%) solution of Himalayan crystal salts (from oceans that dried up millions of years ago) is deemed to be the closest we can come to perfect body fluids...as 'salty' as tears, or the amniotic fluid we grew in before birth.
Every time we get this solution on skin, osmosis begins to balance each and every substance inside and outside our skins. Foreign substances within will be diluted, too, half of it escaping into the water outside, perhaps depending on volume.
(How effective the bath is may depend simply on the volume of solution, compared to the volume of water within...or something like that.)
We have no need to 'calculate' how much of what needs to be applied...it's all automatic. All we have to do is get the best Himalayan crystal salt available, and prepare a bath or footbath (or arm bath, or any other part), at body temperature, and stay in it long enough...20 to 30 minutes. Our circulation systems take care of the portions of the body that aren't in the solution.
Nor does the solution seem to 'sting'...I tried that on sensitive skin.
I guess that's because we are made of living cells in mineral salts and water.
Like I say, this is only my understanding, so far.
My footbaths were for 'grounding', as suggested by someone who likely knows. The extra 'results' I had, the vanishing of anxiety, and the reduction of edema, were totally unexpected...and very welcome.
Some report soothing, 'detox', and even exhilaration. Those make sense to me because I have felt relief from some
parasite toxins, etc., when I took Humaworm. I felt I could whip my weight in wildcats, so great was the improvement.

John, I'd also like to suggest the spitting of all phlegm and mucous that comes into the mouth and throat.
As I understand this...mucous surrounds toxins and
parasite forms, to protect us. The mouth is one place were we can eliminate some of them.
Swallowing, and allowing the stomach juices to 'digest' them, is not effective against all substances.
Although spitting doesn't seem polite, perhaps we can manage it in a socially acceptable way, and benefit from doing so.
I figure that the body is very glad to have an extra avenue of detoxing, and will use any we provide.
There's a song Eartha Kitt sang, with the line..."I want to wake up in the morning with that dark brown taste..."
(I keep Kleenex under my pillow, in case I need it.)
Regularly spitting phlegm and mucous has given me that 'dark brown taste', often.
I think 'oil-pulling' does the same. See the Oil-Pulling forum here on CureZone.
Good luck on your detox, John! I think detoxing is at the heart of well-being.
