I've only just joined and am loving all the info I found on this website.
I was drawn to the water fast concept (I am abig believer in fasting) , and would love to give it a go because (and it's my own fault I admit) I have put my poor body in a lot of strain and binge eating abuse lately. It's time to fight. And I am ready. I thought I would start with a fast to prep my body and induce it into weight loss. One thing I feel blessed to have is a body that is quite responsive to diet and exercise (I am 28 and it looks like weight loss is becoming more impossible without exercise but still do-able). ANYWAY. I have a few questions on water fasting and would appreciate some feedback please.
I apologize if any of this has already been discussed or if I sound too ignorant :)
1- I have mild anemia so is it ok to keep taking my iron tabs while on the fast? I am opting for a 7-day fast to begin with.
2- I will walk for about an hour or so every day. Is that good enough? I will do it in an uphill/downhill area, so there's more 'resistance' etc.
3- On average, for a 150 lb woman (28 years old, 5'4), how much weight can I expect to lose in those 7 days? On average.
4- Does the weight loss only consist of fluids? Or is it actual fat? I am wondering if after the fast is over and I return to a healthy diet, I would gain the weight back.
5- I know this has been asked many times before, so here's one more time :) Is it really safe? It just doesn't sound sensible if you know what I mean. I understand that it's just a fast and a break and that it's temporary but even so, is it really OK?
6- Being a woman, do I expect any changes or effects regarding my monthly cycle? (I used to be very regular until recently when my body has been thrown completely out of whack due to binge eating, weight gain, and what have you. And now I am really irregular it's scaring me. Blood tests and scans came back normal so any illness is ruled out. So it's definitely my own wrong doing that has caused this. Arrgh!).
I used to have such a nice body just a few months ago! :( I have IBS so my diet is restricted anyway so it's not like I eat everything. It's just that I have been feeling a bit stressed out and turned to food for comfort. Big mistake. I would ideally like to look better by the new year. (sigh)
Thank you so much and I look forward to your help :)
Oh and also, are herbal teas ok? Or should it be LITERALLY water?
Andrew, that was very helpful. Thank you so much!
Much appreciated.. I will take your advice and see how it goes.
