Hi all.
After posting a thread here yesterday pleading for help with recurring bartholin's cyst/abscess which has flared up for the third time in ten months, I had a lucky find whilst searching for alternative remedies on the internet.
Try this if you have a bartholin's gland cyst or abscess. It worked for me today, and several times for the woman who posted it on another forum:
Mix 1 fl oz calamine lotion with 1 teaspoon each of tea tree oil and witch hazel. Soak a pad or cotton ball in the mixture and press it against the lump for half an hour or so. The relief from the burning pain is almost instantaneous. It spontaneously drained an hour later for me, I hope you have the same result!
I am going to cancel my marsupialisatin operation and see how I go relying on this remedy. I'm also going to do liver, kidney flushes and hopefully that's the last I'll see of the damn thing!
If you intend to try it, please post your results so we can see if it is just 'coincidence' (I think not).

I thought I would let you know that there is an online support group where you can excange your home remedies for bartholin cysts and share stories with other women going through the same horrors. It's also free. You can find it by going to yahoo groups and typing in bartholincysts ( all one word ) into the search box.

I was so thankful for the brave women that have contributed to this subject and shed so much light on how to self-manage this awful cyst. I read every post and wrote them all down and based on what I had on hand I ended up taking Mucinex D and drinking a lot of water, also started the Antibiotic the doctor ordered although she told me my cyst was really large and really deep with no visible cause or opening. Doctor scheduled me to see GYN next week for surgical procedure. By next day was certain I would have to go to ER due to bowel obstruction. Just as I was seriously scared and praying I massaged this giant lump while soaking and it moved out leaving a much smaller less painful bulge. I am certain that the great improvement in getting the cyst to move was the Mucinex D. I am now using Vicks between cotton with hot pad to continue removal process. Further, someone mentioned this may be a result of yogurt, which coincidently I had just before the cyst developed.

I have a similar problem, my second abscess burst last night after using goldenseal on a pad. The original cyst remains unfortunately and I imagine it is because the duct is blocked. Nobody around here seema to have heard of the bartholin gland cyst so it's kind of embarassing. what I've just been doing is sitting in an epsom salt sitz bath or a regular bath and then squatting after, the pressure seems to help it release. I'm definitely not one for taking antibiotics or getting it drained! I've had 4 in the last year. I've found that I can twll what makes it swell or get infected so prevention by keeping the area super clean all the time and a nurse even told me to take a hair dryer and dry up all the moisture down there qhich seems to keep it down too! :)

Holy crap! This is weird. My name is Phoebe also and I have had recurrent Bartholin's cysts for about 5 years now. They are painful and stupid and crappy. I've just lived with them for about 3 or years because the doctor's office visits with the lancing and the draining and the giant circus like needles got to be a little traumatizing. After I figured out that it would eventually drain on its own, I just let them go along with Sitz baths and cleaning. But I have been avidly looking for a more homeopathic way to rid myself of this evil and I've read on two or three other forums that garlic root and also acidophilus seems to help some. Sounds like a witch's brew, I know, but so long as you dance naked under the midnight moon and wear a pointy hat, it should work. The acidophilus, I read on a Mayo clinic board, can be deposited vaginally by suppository. I'm going to try everything all at once and then maybe the gland will just implode in on itself and be gone in a puff of dust and frustration. Hi all, just here to share my experience with this topic. I have just dealt with a bartholin cyst. Tried all the home remedies i could find; witch hazel, drawing cream, silica complex, tea tree oil, vaseline, multiple sitz baths throughout the day and night (very helpful - esp the longer you sit) etc. It got worse for me at night, almost unbearable.
Then last night -- night # 4, I decided to try: Preparation H. Although I know this normally treat blood vessels extended from hemmorhoids -- I was at my wits end and needed to try something else. It worked, decreased the size of the cyst which was now the size of a grape and helped it to burst. I also think in my reading I saw most people saw relief or bursting of the cyst after 4-5 days, not necessarily due to the different remedies they tried. It's a waiting game. But Preparation H did it for me and gave me much relief, one side of the labia was completely swollen and hard and VERY painful to the touch. I still have some pain today, but think the worst is over, will continue with Sitz baths, pain killers (ibuprofen 600M) and anti biotics until completely resolved.

I did all the stuff that I could find and I have no idea which part of it worked, but something did and it went away sans lancing, draining, poking, needling and cathetoring. However..and this is awesome...I got one on the other side that happened so fast, I didn't have a chance to get all homeopathic up in here before it was far beyond the point of painful. Unfortunately I had to go into the doctor and make a horror show on his exam table. Yuck. I'm still on the lookout for the best things to do for this crap. I just read a forum that stated that Sabina or Silica 3xpotency twice a day for 3-4 weeks is supposed to help and that Bartholin's are a form of the body telling you that something else is going on in your life that needs tending...like less stress or something. I know I'm about as wound as a Timex, so this would not surprise me. These things are the worst, though. You know...next to 3rd world starvation and genocide, Bartholin's are the devil. i have had my bartholin abcess/cyst for 3 weeks now for the first time i have tried two different types of Antibiotics which has only made it slightly smaller not completely cleared it and im not to keen on going under the knife as im completely terrified of needles.
could you please let me no whats the best home remedy that anyone has tried. its about the size of a grape now and very painful. and is starting to become very frustrating

This is a reply to # 1,481,162This is my forth bartholin flare in 4 years. The calamine/witch hazel/tea tree oil did not work for me...did it 2 times a day for 3 days -all it did was burn my skin and made me feel even more uncomfortable. My first one- went to the ER after 3 days of suffering - doc injected me with some powerful stuff in my butt cheeks- woke up the next day -it popped! No more pain! The 2nd one- after 3 days of suffering, went to the walk in clinic- doc game me oral Antibiotics and the next day- it popped! My 3rd one- I hated going to the doctor because I hate it when they look and poke at it- I did sitz bath everyday for 3-4 days- I woke up to a terrible pain down there in the middle of the night- I wobbled towards the bathroom while crying... Got a small magnifying mirror- I inspected the bump and I noticed a small white pimple on the inner side of the bump. Got a small needle(cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide), poked the white pimple and bam! It popped and started draining by itself. Now my forth one- after 2 days of pain I went to the urgent care hospital- doc gave me apo Amoxi/Clavulan Antibiotics - this is my 3rd day on the Antibiotics - but nothing was happening until 4 hours ago I noticed a small white pimple again- I poked it and it started to drain... Really slow this time... Until now I'm helping it drain every hour by squeezing it. Can't squeeze on it for a long time because it's still painful. :(
So ladies if you see a white pimple sticking out- you know what to do! But make sure your hands and needle are clean- and yeah do it while sitting on the toilet :)Advertisement

This is a reply to # 1,034,821I too only had tea tree oil and I put some on a cotton pad and pressed it against the abcess and it drained within the hour. THANK YOU SO MUCH PHOEBE!!! I LOVE YOU!! I was going to have to miss a day of class, pay a co pay and get a needle in the you know where! Now I don't!

This is a reply to # 1,803,794Thank you ladies for the home remedies. I am currently suffering with my 3rd cyst/abscess. The last one which was the size of a golf ball and extremely painful needed to be lanced. My doctor wanted to do the marsuprialization procedure but I'm hesitant due to reading about so many women who have had the procedure only to suffer a recurrence of the cyst. I am dreading having to lance this cyst and will try just about anything to avoid it. Yes the pain only lasts for a second or 2 but damn if those aren't 2 very painful seconds. Thanks again ladies.
