Yep, c'est moi...circa '84. And my compadre was Bud Sweet...dj at many of the clubs back then...who's now my x-hub. Thought you might recognize one of us from the ol' days. Man, we had a lot of fun back then!!!
You two are veeeeery hot. sizzlin! Dang, we used to spend a lot of time on our hair back then, huh? We used to stripe ours with bleach and then dye it pink. The bleach stripes would be reaaaally pink.
Used to shop at Amvet's a lot too, and another thrift shop. The owner's name was George.....ring a bell?
HA! Time...and cans of Aquanet...hair just doen't do that without a lot of help...LOL! Yep, I had THAT pink too... Crazy Colours...used to get it at WaxTrax on Lincoln Ave....great place for vinyl. I once had a buzz cut with a huge froth of shocking pink bangs and a long pink tail. Sometimes I'd wear the bangs fanned up and around my hairline...the only sideways mohawk in Chicago at the time. One of my bartender buds had the most gorgeous cobalt blue hair that I've ever seen!
Don't remember a George, but did plenty of shopping at Amvets and found some great treasures at Flashy Trash. He coulda been a George...don't remember. Great shop, tough! I think it was originally on Lincoln and then he expanded and moved to Broadway.
Did you know the dj Neo? He was also the manager at Neo and then 950. He opened the first punk bar in Chicago...Snakepit...that was burned down. Loved Roxie music.
i spent the 80's in the wilderness of alaska with wood for heat and kerosene for light and fur for cash. i would come into fairbanks and see flock of seagulls on mtv and turn right back around into the woods.
I had a buzz cut too:) not voluntarily, though. A "friend" of a friend cut my hair...HER hair was great, very new wave, as she was cutting my hair my roomie kept cracking jokes..."hey, Pat, should I go get a bowl(for a bowl cut:)? Anyway, my head ended up looking like a shake roof. I ran crying to another friend and she gave me a buzz cut. I liked it, actually...:) My hair's straight so I favored blunt cuts...all the aqua-net in the world wouldn't make my hair do the things yours did. A sideways mohawk...hehehe...
OMG you're bringing back memories.
You'd remember George. The cool people got to go into the basement, where he kept the good stuff. The REALLY cool people got to go in the secret room in the basement where he kept the REALLY good stuff. The really REALLY cool people got to sit with him & drink coffee and ouzo....and talk about LOOOOVE, he was a lecherous old Greek guy(always tried to spy on us while we were changing)... He had gorgeous things...I got a cashmere coat there once....a muff made out of some kind of fur(my roomie said it was German Shepard:)
George loved cute girls....
Did you know these guys from Chicago? My hub went on tour with them as their sound man and I made the backdrop for the tour. A girlfriend sang with them for a while.
YES I know Ministry, I saw them at Cabaret Metro one summer and the a/c went kaput! The place was packed, it was a veeery hot and steamy show:)
ok, I've only managed to watch the first two videos...:)
you're a groupie, huh? :)
LOL...I might have worked that show...or was down in the basement at Smart Bar! I worked at both of them too, and remember the walls literally dripping...they were like swamps. EVERYONE was soaked with make-up running and hair falling down! I don't even know if they had a/c!!!
Na...not a groupie...just got the backdrop gig because my x was doing the tour. Hardly anyone in Chicago was hip enough for AJ....and most of his later music got too loud and angry for my taste. But I liked their earlier stuff.
Edit: I see the O/T and vids are causing a stir...feel free to delete this thread. I just wanted to see if you saw any familiar faces from your old stomping ground. Perhaps it would be best if I refrained down my trips on memory lane on your forum. But it has been fun! :)
