Difference between Sodium Chlorite and Sodium Hypochlorite   by #122338   5 year 1 of 1 (100%)

The difference is one oxygen atom... Chlorite has 2, and hypochlorite has 3. hypochlorite disinfects thru the process of chlorination, chlorite (when converted to chlorine dioxide) disinfects thru the process of oxidation. Good explanation of the difference is in this article https://kvlab.com/How-Chlorine-Dioxide-Works.html
