I undertook my 31st liver-flush on the 15 August 2006. I altered the protocol slightly by taking only one dose of Epson salts at 18.30 and then started taking the flush potion at 20.30 consisting 2 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with fresh ginger root juice and ground turmeric. I repeated this dose of the potion at 21.00, 21.30, 22.00 and 22.30; consuming a total of 10 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice. At 23.30 I drank another dose of Epson salts and retired to bed where I had a reasonable night albeit slightly disturb by acid indigestion. This was not surprising considering the amount of citric acid consumed; the pancreas must have been struggling to neutralise it. I was also troubled by the acid biliary reflux from time to time over the next day but by another day it had gone. This rather confirms the pancreatitis signs that I had noticed during my healing crisis. I had the watery diarrhoea just once during the morning of the following day and it was a relief to see just 3 tiny green stones, 3 mm in size, and a trace of chaff. It was very noticeable that there was none of that unmistakeable “stale bile” smell. It is remarkable to think that on the first flush I could hardly tolerate 3 fluid ounces of olive oil and now I can ingest 10 fluid ounces with comparative ease. That is an enormous improvement in biliary function. Even though there have been false dawns in the past this flush I will booked this flush in as the first of three without stones.
What came out?
A trace of chaff and three tiny green stones.
Despite feeling quite good now and certainly leagues better than a year ago, I am sensing cycles of retracing. As a sufferer of a syndrome I know the problems associated with flare-ups and the length of time it takes to recover. However, the events I am suffering from now are well defined periods lasting 2 to 4 days where I have flu-like symptoms and associated brain-fog, muscle, bone and joint, and vagaries. These vagaries or signs involve red, gritty eyes and burning cold soles and creeping skin together with the injured-animal syndrome of not wanting to venture out of the cave. Nevertheless I am still on a steady upward slope or ladder involving one-step-up and half a step down. When I review my health profile from before I started the liver-flush protocol with how I feel now there is no resemblance and my syndrome is fading away; slowly but surely. My mental capacity has improved significantly and I feel calm and in-control during the positive parts of retracing. My down-time which is the number of days I feel/felt ill has diminished from about 27 days a month to 12. Put another way I only use to be functional for 1 day a week and now I only feel bad on average for 3 days in two weeks.
Although the experimentation of the previous few flushes has been valuable in terms of discoverable and an inevitable part of the learning process I have decided to return to the tried a tested method. On 28th and 29th August I undertook a standard Hulda Clark protocol consisting of two doses of pre-flush Epsom salts and then the potion which consisted of 8 fluid ounces, each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with fresh ginger juice and ground turmeric, (about a teaspoon of each). I made sure that I drank a pint of water before the first and second Epsom salts and also the liver-flush potion. As I lay in bed I felt the unmistakeable sensation of stones passing through the biliary duct. I awoke at first light (5.30am) an ingested a cup of Epson salts which was ready by the bedside and grabbed a lie-in until 7.30 am. Immediately after arising I drank a pint of water laced with a pinch each of sea salt and baking powder. It was no surprise that I expelled a modest number of stones which were hard and agglomerated. Like nearly all of my stones they stay hard for days like a piece of dough.
What came out?
4 stones around 1 cm
20 stones between 0.5 and 1 cm
A small amount of small stones and chaff; about 1 teaspoon (5mL).
I am finding this period of time very frustrating and quite difficult. I feel incredibly tired and quite week and get fatigued very quickly. Despite this I have started back at the gymnasium and my physiotherapist tells me that my neck and shoulder posture look very good and even. I am caught in two minds; either the healing process in cycling again or this is a flare up. The differences from the last years are that I feel in control and the symptoms are not vague. It is worrying that I still have a dull pain in the gallbladder region but I am motivated to continue until there are not more stones being expelled.
On the 13th and 14th September 2006 I completed my 33rd liver flush using the Hulda Clarke procedure consisting of 6 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with ground turmeric and fresh ginger juice.
What came out?
1 stone around 1 cm
1 stones between 0.5 and 1 cm
A small amount of small stones and chaff; about 1 teaspoon (5mL).
I have been feeling much more energised and able to do a great deal more each day without getting so tired. The gymnasium was easier and not a painful and it is difficult to believe that I was so washed out through the summer months. I am so pleased that my right arm, shoulder and chest is not noticeable anymore and my mind is now occupied with not liver thoughts. I feel very strong and not hampered by the precious, protective feelings that use to hold me back. It has occurred to me that getting one’s own personal psychology correct is just as important as physical health. I use be rather perfectionist and approval-seeking which are a unnecessary companion to a long term health condition but now I am very contented with who I am and not in the least phases by the plethora of opinion held by other people on the merits or otherwise of liver flushing, or anything else for that matter.
On the 26th and 27th September 2006 I completed my 34th liver flush using the Hulda Clarke procedure consisting of 7 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with ground turmeric and fresh ginger juice.
What came out?
Small stones and chaff; about 2 teaspoons (10mL).
I would never have imagined that cleansing my liver would have lead to such an enormous change in my life. 34 Flushes over 16 month is quite an investment in time and emotion but it has enabled me to exercise effectively and this has lead to other benefits in health.
Snakes and Ladders
On the 30th September and for some reason after eating an omelette this lunch time I feel a rather uncomfortable sensation in my upper abdomen which referred pain onto my middle back. I was able to keep myself busy in the garden but even so I started the vegetables I ate some of my lunch. The discomfort lasted for two days and took about a week to clear completely and it was also accompanied by some very smelly (Hydrogen Sulphide) pasty grey stools.
Is this another sector of my liver unblocking itself I ask myself and hope? I had a very vigorous session at the gymnasium on Friday, running, weights and stretching for 2 hours and exercise does appear to have a strong positive influence of the digestive system; for me.
Although these episodes are very frustrating I ardently believe with an unshakeable faith that this is the curing path for me. By the 7th of October things are back to normal and I am assuming that this was a classic bout of pancreatitis and I have climb up another step on the ladder after temporarily sliding down a snake. I am gratified that these period of discomfort are far and few these days and an annoyance rather that a controlling factor of my life.
On the 9th and 10th October 2006 I completed my 35th liver flush using the Hulda Clarke procedure consisting of 6 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with ground turmeric and fresh dandelion extract.
What came out?
I had intended to flush a week earlier but things got in the way so hopefully Halloween may prove to be a defining juncture. I had planed every very carefully to make sure it was the best possible. It amuses me that I still think this way because I had thought I had got rid of my perfectionist characteristic some flushes ago.
Things started to go wrong on Saturday when I had a set-back on my spine my in the garden over some autumnal digging. This is the first time since my operation five years ago that I suffered this way. It was quite a serious and very painful set-back and after it happened
I am different now, after liver flushing, more confident and able to combat the negatives in life and by this Tuesday afternoon, 3 days later, I was at the gym, albeit gingerly, running and stretching to maximise my metabolism for the flush; In a lot of pain but able to cope.
I followed the simple but so effective Hulda Clarke flush. I take both pre-flush doses of Epsom salts (A dessertspoon full rather than a tablespoon full) with a pint of water an hour each side to ensure I am fully hydrated. I consumed a flush potion consisting of 8 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with powdered turmeric and fresh ginger juice and lay on my back in bed thinking that this could the last one and I would arrive in the morning at my journeys’ end, fully graduated. A few doubts started manifest themselves when I felt a sharp sensation as the stones gush through the bile duct into the duodenum, followed by gurgling sounds. I had a rough night both from the pain which would stab me in the lower back whenever I moved. I also suffered from bile acid reflux and queasiness, which all together produces some horrible deep, throbbing leg pains but I know it would all be over fairly soon. It is very unusual for me to be effected in this way as usually I sleep like a baby. By the side the bed I have a dose of Epsom salts which I drank at 6.30 pm. I don’t take the 4th and final Epson salts but substitute a pint of warm water with half a teaspoon of sea-salt, half a teaspoon of baking powder and a tablespoon of honey.
Oh! My. The next morning the stones were back in size and quantity.
What came out?
1 dull green stones about 2 cm in size
5 dull green stones about 1 cm in size
18 dull green stones about 0.5 cm in size
About 1 teaspoonful of small stones
Carried out on the 14th November 2006 using 8 fluid ounces each of olive oil and lemon juice fortified with powdered turmeric and fresh ginger juice; 16 fluid ounces of potion in total. I take both pre-flush doses of Epsom salts (A dessertspoon full rather than a tablespoon full) with a pint of water an hour each side to ensure I am fully hydrated. I drank an early morning dose of Epsom salts at 5.00am after sleeping peacefully and finally arose at 7.00am when I consumed a hydration drink of warm water with half a teaspoon of sea-salt, half a teaspoon of baking powder and a tablespoon of honey.
What came out?
6 dull green stones about 0.5 cm in size
About 1.5 teaspoonfuls of very small stones.
On the 21st November after returning from the gymnasium and enjoying a beverage of tea with a chocolate digestive biscuit (cookie) I suffered a short gallbladder pain event. I took 2 teaspoons of Epson salts in a little warm water and moved around collecting the vegetables from the garden. After 10 minutes it had gone. Although this was a little disconcerting it was nothing compared to the agony of my pre-flush days where pain would last hours on end.
Despite being a full moon it is my schedule to flush on the 5 December 2006. I did a full 2 hour work out in the gymnasium during the afternoon to increase my metabolism. I took special care to re-hydrate myself by drinking a pint of water with a pinch of salt on the hour between the doses of Epson salt. I adopted the Hulda Clarke protocol taking the Epson salts at 6.30 and 8.30 pm, a pint of water with a pinch of salt at 5.30, 7.30 and 9.30 pm and the flush potion at 10.30 pm. The flush potion consisted of 8 fluid ounces each of freshly squeezed lemon juice and olive oil with about a teaspoon each of fresh ginger juice and ground turmeric. A further early morning and final dose of Epson salt was consumed at 6.00 am. At about 9.00 I started to pass stones.
What came out?
3 green stones about 1.0 cm in size
10 green stones about 1.0 cm in size
20 green stones about 0.5 cm in size
About 1 tablespoonful of very small stones.
The fact that stones are still being produced now after 38 flushes and in such large quantities is a clear indication that there may be another factor, which is not easily explained, causing the ‘stones’. The current stone expulsion rate is about 2.5 mL every 20 days and has pretty much constant for the last 12 flushes. There are also peaks where up to 25 ml of stones can be expelled. I now have enough data to analyse what I think may be the mechanism of flushing. I have used my knowledge of statistics to predict forward another 18 month and then produced the graph below, which shows the actual flushes against my best estimate of the volume of stones. If I continue to flush for another 18 month I would still be expelling 2.5 mL every of green stones every 2 to 3 weeks, although I am not prepared to prove that.
Liver flushing cleanses the liver and I have no doubts in my mind about that fact. What is expelled in the stools following the flush is the question that I want to explore. Liver flushing has the potential to release anything in the biliary system which includes the following:
1. Hard pigment and calcified stones; consist of various colours and shapes. I have seen pictures of these posted by on the curezone gallery and produced one myself.
2. Green ‘soft’ cholesterol stones. The shapes of these tend to be angular where they touch other stones and may be coated yellow. In general there are not ball shaped. I have seen plenty pictures of these.
3. Congestion and liver stones; these can be expelled as pieces of coral, lentils, gravel, and clay. When I expelled my liver congestion it came out looking like peanut-brittle on another occasion like dirty sticky clay.
4. Biliary sludge; which is thick glutinous green bile and is very soft jelly or viscous liquid. It is a super-saturation state of bile where cholesterol crystals form and is considered to be a pre-cursor to cholesterol gallstone development.
5. Bile which comes from the liver and gallbladder covers a spectrum of viscosity form water-like as it enters from the liver to thick jelly by he walls of the gallbladder.
6. Parasites, bacteria and toxins.
The question is what happens to the bile when it enters the digestive tract during a flush. The answer probably depends on a number of factor including he individuals own metabolism. About 14% of bile is solid matter. A flush could result in about 225 mL of bile being released from the gallbladder of which 31 mL (2 tablespoons) could be solid matter. If you take into consideration that much of the bile is concentrated then the amount of solid matter is higher, possibly twice he amount. I believe that this solid matter is converted to the green peas that we commonly see after a flush. They tend to be round clumps of soft material. To the casual true cholesterol gallstones and bile stools can look the same and it is difficult to recognise the difference flush to flush. I have seen both types of stones present in the same flush.
In the picture below are illustrated the two types of ‘stones’ that can be seen following a liver-flush. The ‘bile-stools’ are clumps and may even be embedded with food matter while the cholesterol gallstones are quite clearly defined with angular clean smooth faces where they compact against other stones in the gallbladder. The ‘bile-stools’ are from flush 36 while the gallstones are from flush 17. It is obviously difficult to discern bile-stools, cholesterol gall stones and possibly biliary sludge because they are all, essentially, consists of the same material, which is bile. They are also acted upon by the digestive tract which may make them difficult to recognise accurately. It is important not to make the assumption that all the green pebbles are ‘bile-stools’; a small troublesome gallstone could go unnoticed among a large volume of bile-stools. One must not loose sight of the fact that liver-flushing removes gallstones restore biliary function and is a beneficial therapy for breaking the gastric absorption cholesterol cycle and expelling stale bile. We all live in an unnatural world where our primitive habitual routines no longer keep our bodies in good condition and consequently may needs a little external help; that is our belief. In cleaning the liver it is possible to influence and improve the functioning of the body to help cure ourselves, this is our faith.
Now that I have a healthy biliary system I produce a regular amount of “bile-balls” after each flush. The bile goes through natural biological phases of thickening and thinning and this may result in an occasional increase in the amounts of “bile-balls”. My observations indicate that he cycle is a multiple of 30 days. This would tend to tie up with experiments and observations written up in various medical papers. When this natural cycle stalls because of illness, drugs, stress, etc; gallstones start to form and grow slowly, however, true cholesterol gallstones grow slowly at about 2.5 mm per year.
Looking at the results graph it can be seen that initially I expelled the congestion and true stones and that now it has settled down to a constant rate. It can be argued that flush procedure was probably completed around 150 days at flush 14 and that a maintenance flush would have taken care of any stubborn congestion. However, it could also be argued that the flush wasn’t finished until 378 days at flush 28. The problem that I had was not getting three clear flushes in a row because my metabolism wasn’t compatible with this rule. We must forget hat we are all different.
I will not be flushing on a routine basis anymore as I feel I have completed the programme and need to concentrate my time and thoughts on other issues. I shall be adopting a maintenance programme of two flushes a year.
I decided to talk to the patient support line in the UK. In case you don’t know we have a national free health service in the UK funded through government taxes and we can access expert medical advice over the phone. They told me that there is a change in the way that doctors (not necessarily surgeons) view gallbladder pain. The use of modern key-hole surgery using laser scalpels have resulted in a rapid rise in the number of gallbladder operations, but it isn’t logical to perform an operation just because it is easy. However, care doctors are waking up to the fact that gallbladders can be left alone if they cause only occasional painful attack. It also appears that that a growing number of people who have had gallbladder surgery continue to suffer pain. There was something else not related to the stones or sludge that was causing the problem. In conclusion it is best to carry-on regardless using a combination of diet, exercise and some supplements (eg fish oil, dandelion, taurine etc) to control the condition; and the secret weapon, liver-flushing.
After 38 flushes I estimate that I have expelled a large amount of stones and gravel but the totals add up to a volume that I would consider too high to be contained in the biliary system. In reflection and with greater experience I consider that some of the earlier sludge which was not tan coloured may have been faecal matter. However, hepatic liver stones can be extremely large; up to the size of a tennis ball and these emerge and are evacuated as clay like stools. Nevertheless, my re-estimate for the volume of stones is about 300 mL but because many of the stones stow signs of compaction (tightly pact together) the pact size would be approximately 30% less giving a total stone volume in excess of about 300 mL slightly larger than the size of the average gallbladder.
