Day 6
Feeling Much Better
Date: 3/25/2006 9:00:32 AM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2135 times Looking back now, i'd say starting your fast when you HAVE a cold is a good way to go. You've got to go thru the stages of the cold anyway, and you MISS the trials and challenges of going thru the hunger phases in the first 3 days. I have felt virtually no hunger, because i was occupied with the cold.
Another thing or two that comes to mind for those first trying long fasts:
1) I'd read somewhere that before you start your fast, you MUST write down WHY you are fasting,...then READ it EVERY day. (This is mental preparation) I've found this to be VERY important, especially for new fasters. A couple of times, and many will probably back me up here, when i started a fast, i just jumped into it, no mental prepartation at all...the first time, i lasted about 8 hours, said to heck with it, and started eating. The 2nd time, i went 2 days, started thinking about chocolate icecream, said to heck with it, and went and ate 3/4 of half a gallon of choc. icecream.
THIS time i wrote down WHY i was fasting...and it's made ALL the difference...last night i walked by some really good looking bar b q chicken things at the store while getting some carrots and apples and radishes. The bar b q looked REALLY good, but it wasn't that much of a temptation. (don't think you won't ever be tempted on a fast, you will) 30 seconds later i felt good about blowing the temtation off...the mental preparation indeed helps. This builds your will power...which is like a muscle, each time you pass a temptation test, pat yourself on your back....you just strengthened your will power, and it will get stronger the more you exercise it.
When a temptation comes, say to yourself, "oh goody, here's a test for me...here's a chance to strenghten my will power" then pass the test and move on...and treat yourself to a juice.
Here were my reasons for fasting:
1) To be Slim and Trim again.
2) To have more energy again.
3) Cure some slight ailments i have or might have
4) Get some spiritual insights/ awakenings
5) Help tame my false pride
6) Get out of my rut in life/ start a new life
7) Be the healtiest i can be
8) Have a brighter, better, more positive attitude
9) kick coffee and caffeine and maybe alcohol
And i'm reading these every day. It really helps.
