Eco Art:Altered Greeting Cards

Eco Art made with reused greeting cards

I'm sure you've received unsolicited greeting cards in the mail from non-profit organizations seeking donations. I get them quite frequently. I keep the cards and when the pile grows too big, pass them along to a non-profit organization that comes around my neighborhood seeking items for resale in their thrift store. However, I really liked the bright colors of these cards from the Jane Goodall Institute*, so I saved them and made my own art out of them.

The first three cards are approximately 4.5" X 6.5". The fourth photo is a placard with the reused greeting card mounted on a piece of cardboard and measures 7" X 10". The last photo is a detail of the hand embroidery around the "paint splashes" on the greeting card.

Cards made from reused greeting cards, photos from magazine and newspaper, burlap paper scrap, corrugated cardboard scrap, reused paint pallet scrap, leaf and bead embellishments, "circles" from vitamin bottle seals, reused paper towel/acrylic paint, hand embroidery.

The Jane Goodall Institute: We are a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall. By protecting chimpanzees and inspiring people to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment. Everything is connected—everyone can make a difference.
