Stage 2: Days 3 - 7. The Cat Gets Serious.
The Cat Gets Serious: Can she get through the 2nd stage of detoxing of the Master Cleanse?
Date: 10/5/2007 1:24:48 AM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2513 times Day 3 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 8 BMs
5 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup & Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Lightly coated white tongue, persistent heavy throbbing headache, mild nausea. Liver twinging from large, moving stones.
Detox Methods: 3 glasses water, detox foot pads.
Weight: 55.7, 28.7% BF.
Comments: Today was crazy at work, and I was definitely feeling rough. I was not able to keep up with water, and went straight to bed when I got home. The detoxing from the night before was effective - the coating on my tongue is still fairly light. I can scrape it off with a wet tooth brush. Because I didn't drink much water today or do much detoxing, I'm guessing toxin symptoms could be stronger tomorrow.
Day 4 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 5 BMs
5 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup & Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Lightly coated white tongue, persistent dull throbbing headache, but not as bad as yesterday, sore back - the kidneys were complaining, liver twinging, mild memory lapses, and irritability for a few hours in the afternoon.
Detox Methods: 8 glasses water, detox foot pads, magnesium oxide 1,500 mg, walking 8,951 steps.
Weight: 54.5 kg, 27.9% BF.
Comments: I tried replacing 1 tbsp of maple syrup (of the 4 tbsp I add to a 500 ml bottle of lemon mix) with 1 tbsp of blackstrap molasses, hoping the extra nutrition and electrolytes will help with dizziness and brain fog. I've read the debate about molasses versus maple syrup, and thought it might be worth a try. Contrary to what one of the posters reported, I found the mix was not disagreeable, although I'd really prefer a glass of red wine! The feeling of weakness in the legs eased a little, which might have been a result of substituting a little molasses.
My headache was so bad in the evening that my eyes were crossed a little, which usually only happens with a bad migraine. This was not a migraine, but a toxin headache. I am taking medication for the headaches, as to do otherwise would result in my being incapacitated and unable to work. I was moodier than usual today (although I was usually this moody before I started all the cleansings, 18 months ago), and otherwise was quiet enough to draw comment.
Ok, I'll admit it. I was downright bitchy today for unpredictable periods of time at work. I hate being like that! Nothing like being trapped in a body that's have a general biochemical revolt on you. Argh! I felt sorry for the people at work who witnessed the brief fireworks. Since starting these cleanses, I've become such a generally positive, even-tempered person that the people I work with were taken aback a little today. I became silent, to spare them, and eventually returned to my usual self, although weakly.
It's definitely worth it to do detoxing during this cleanse, as the toxins make you feel pretty rotten. My appetite seems to have mostly vanished, but I still find myself thinking about food from time to time. I think the most important thing is water, water, water! And using the salt water flush is very helpful at getting the junk out.
Even noticed how sick you feel when the salt water stirs things up, just before your visit to the white porcelain god? I really noticed that today. That's all those poisons you consumed (willingly!) one way or another, now being flushed out, before they can cause havoc somewhere else in your body.
Day 5 (Weekend)
Salt Water Flush - 5 BMs
6 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup & Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Lightly coated white tongue, red and itchy around nostrils, small itchy skin-coloured moles on neck, what felt like a 1/2 dime-sized itchy bump directly on my spine on the back of the neck, persistent dull throbbing headache, sore back, bad breath, smelly sweat, mild memory lapses, and irritability for a few hours in the evening. I feel increasingly weak, especially in the legs, and emotionally detached.
Detox Methods: 6 glasses water, detox foot pads, magnesium oxide 1,500 mg, walking 16,452 steps.
Weight: 53.8 kg, 27.5% BF.
Comments: I found that I could walk on level ground without much problem, but steps or inclines were difficult. I tried walking a little further today. The effort drained me of energy and left me feeling wiped out. I can feel major detoxing going on in the body - a sense of being drained, of feeling gritty and dirty inside, and a feeling of impatience. It will all be worth it in the end, but right now it's hard to deal with.
Right now, I have only a fleeting sensation of hunger, which the lemon drink soothes. I think about food less, but I love the SMELL of it! What I really miss is the texture, of chewing and having something solid in there.
Day 6 (Weekend)
Salt Water Flush - 6 BMs
6 Glasses Lemon/Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Lightly coated white tongue, headache gradually vanished during the morning, sore back, redness around both nostrils and a small pimple on the right nostril, swelling (edema) under both eyes but especially the right eye (I slept on my right side last night), dizzy, weakness, mild memory lapses, and apathy for most of the day, liver twinging.
Tea: Tried the Peppermint tea (couldn't find mint). It was a nice change, perhaps helped my breath a little. I added banaba tea (kidneys) and Eupatorium odoratum (lungs). This is a departure from the strict MC, but I felt it was necessary to help my body to cope with the detox symptoms.
Detox Methods: 7 glasses water, detox foot pads, magnesium oxide 1,500 mg, walking 2,686 steps.
Weight: 53.6 kg, 27.4% BF.
Comments:
Today was an emotional roller coaster for me. Sometimes I was positive, sometimes I struggled to not be snappy and unpleasant. I had to ask a visiting friend to leave as I was finding it difficult to be sociable, something I've never done before. I hope the detoxing helps clear some of the toxins which are making me so miserable.
I was not hungry, nor did I want to think about food. I prepared a meal for my friend but didn't seem to be affected by it. I don't even remember what it was. Mostly, the smell of food is pleasurable, but the access to it is unthinkable right now.
My physical symptoms have stepped up a notch, showing some wear and tear on the kidneys (edema) and perhaps some healing in the lungs from years of smoking and smoking cessation products. I feel weak, especially in the legs. I know the worst is over (Day 4) but the midst of Stage 2 is no picnic!
Day 7 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 10 BMs
6 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup & Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Lightly coated white tongue, some mucus in throat all day, redness around both nostrils and pimple beside the left nostril, travelling flesh-coloured itchy moles on neck and a cyst-like bump on back of neck, low energy and swelling (edema) under both eyes for a few hours in the morning, weakness, temporary difficulty in hearing, and apathy for most of the day. The brain fog seemed to start dispersing in the afternoon. Lots of liver twinging, from restless stones.
Tea: Peppermint tea and banaba tea (kidneys) in the morning.
Detox Methods: 8 glasses water, detox foot pads, walking 9,637 steps.
Weight: 52.9 kg, 27.3% BF.
Comments:
I seemed to be a little deaf today. I don't know why, but all sounds seemed a little muffled. I found it hard to concentrate and just wanted to sit and vegetate. Towards the end of the day, I felt my energy pick up, and was able to walk home. I felt detached and distant, and as long as people left me alone I was ok; if they tried to talk to me, I felt a little snapish if they persisted. However, my mood seems to be leveling out a little, compared to the weekend.
Due to a fungus infection in my feet, the skin there often peels, and the detox foot pad ripped the skin when I pulled it off this morning. Owie! So no detox foot pads for awhile, to allow healing. Once the MC is over, I will return to daily oregano oil drops to continue eradicating this fungus.
I've noticed a relationship between feelings of twinging (pinching or itchiness) in the liver area, and bad mood. It's not 100%, but there seems to be a relationship. Because of the absence of fat in the MC, stones seem to be forming or moving in the liver, and sometimes toxins seem to be released from the liver as well - perhaps because a stone moved. I'm expecting a productive liver flush when the MC is over.
I suspect that molasses causes diarrhea. It changes the BMs from starting in the day being dark and becoming lighter over the day, to being consistently dark. Also, the molasses seems to "dye" the lemon pulp, or else pieces and chunks of solid matter are being eliminated in these mostly liquid BMs.
The jury is still out on malasses and maple syrup, in my case.
I have, more or less, completed the 2nd stage of detoxing. It was rough but I think a lot of toxins were removed, and my health will reflect this in the coming months. I feel moments of pride when I think of how well I am following this fast. I am in awe of anyone who has done this for 40 days.
-4.1 kg (-9 pounds), -2.2% BF. 1 pant size down.
