Longevity can be extended and general health and fitness improved on a restricted calorie diet. Or, so I have read in many and varied places. The research to back up this statement has mainly involved animals rather than humans. However, the number of studies and the variety of animals involved in this research strongly indicates that it would work well on humans as well.
