I was telling a friend about the fruit decoder app. Before I got to the site listed in this post, he said he had heard that if the PLU number starts with a "9", it is organic produce. I looked at the example shown on fruitdecoder.com, and sure enough... the number starts with a "9" for organic.

This knowledge may be a simple way for those of us without the app to decode. I don't know whether this is a California standard or continental US.
