I am teacher of the blind and I find myself in such a place where I can't pay for basics even. I always a broken car away from losing my job. I look at the wanted ads online and they all seem to want me to move into selling widgets no one needs. I get excited at first that my talents match what they are looking for but then I just can't push send.
Helping others is a kind of sickness in the world of work these days. There has to be a better way? that allows us to survive and still serve others. The reverse is true of how the political will is going. The Libertarian would say to serve others, you must serve yourself first. The wealthy have served themselves to the busting gut status and still they want more. Should I give in to corporatism or just get out of the system completely?
Financial desperation is close to forcing me to quit teaching and just sell widgets. I can't say I am not tempted. I think my children are embarrassed of me because they want me to be successful. I am too old to be struggling just to make it. The world is changing in two directions... We know the corporations are killing the world but that is the only game in town that pays. I am holding on to the dream of helping others... and still... I looked again today at the wanted ads and looked again at the widget sales jobs...
