  • Day 5 of Juice Fast   by  Bearded One     15 y     3,102       9 Messages Shown       Blog: My 30 Day Juice Fast Journal
    Well,

I think I'm getting into the groove of the fast. I'm getting up, drinking my juice, going to work, working out, drinking another juice and going to bed around the same time every day. I had what should have been one of my biggest temptations today.... The dreaded catered seminar!!!

I do the insurance billing for a family practitioner and yesterday had to attend a Blue Cross Blue Sheild insurance seminar (they are taking over a couple of Medicaid programs in the state). The seminar was also catered and not with crappy food, either. This was good stuff; parmesean chicken, lasagna, italian wedding soup, ceaser salad, fresh fruit, homemade bread, individual cheesecake deserts. Stuff I would normally love to indulge (it was by far the nicest spread I've ever seen for an event like this--and I've been to quite a few)

I went with a fellow co-worker to the seminar (who knows that I am on the juice fast) so it wasn't awkward to not be eating. However, we were sitting at a round table that held about 9 other workers from various offices around town. All of them were female (I mention this only because in the field of medical billing/MA's the population is like 95/5 in favor of the fairer gender). Now of course every single female was interested in why I was not eating. How could I not want to enjoy the deliciousness of free...catered...italian...food!!! Well, truth be told I again had a gut check and realized I wasn't the slightest bit hungry. What was more annoying was having to explain myself to 9 other women. Especially because two of those 9 women had said they had gone on juice fasts and that they didn't work!!! That they felt no better afterward and that although they did loose some weight initially that they gained it back and more after they stopped fasting.

Needless to say I really didn't want to get into it with these women....but women love to talk about diets (it's true ladies, right?). So I politely declined to explain myself and only asserted that I wasn't really all that hungry. None of them liked that very much and I detected some muffled snickers. Whatever.

I went home and hit the treadmill for an hour and felt much better. Thats about it for day 5. Oh, I haven't been that "regular" so I think I'm going to do another Salt Water Flush this weekend. I would do one during the week but I'm a little uncomfortable about having to deal with the results in the work-place if you know what I mean.

Also, I read on the net yesterday that people reccommend that you not make the same juice all the time. Something about allergies developing??? I've really only been sticking to two, though. The carrot, beet, spinich, apple & the apple and grape (of course with some parsley, ginger and cucumber thrown in. Does anyone have any opinion on this issue???

    Till Tommorow,
    Bearded One

PS This morning the wife tells me she wants to start Atkins again :( Oy vey

haha, i can picture that situation so vividly. i'm going to be starting my fast in a couple days, and hopefully i wont run into any problems having to explain it to anyone. it's probably better just to make something up like.. "oh wow, i just ate so much food a few hours ago. i couldnt possibly eat any more."

      peace

yes, im doing a prefast before jumping right into it. been eating lots of frozen grapes, and not much else lately. i am thinking of starting sunday. things are going pretty good for me, so i have a good feeling about fasting. sorry i wasn't clear about my start date, but there were life matters to sort out before i made a decision when to begin.

    • Hello!   by  #61563     15 y     870
Hello! Way to go! I don't know if you've had a chance to read Dazzle's blog ~Rising Above it All~ on curezone, but it is by far the best, most extensive, enlightening recount of a 30 day juice fast around. I don't know if she specifically addresses allergies as a result of only juicing one or two fruits/veggs, but she does have some wonderful recipes for different juices. She compiled tonnes of information, it really is a great read! Enjoy!

    • Atkins   by  meire     15 y     1,311
Oh man Atkins is soooo bad for you.

You mentioned your wife doesn't think she'd stick to a fast - neither did I. I mean that from the bottom of my heart - I really, really didn't think I'd go 30 days. I didn't even dare tell myself it was gonna be 30 days initially, I was so convinced I'd cave before the end of day 1. Then day 1 was over, and I said 'lets try 3 days'. Then I sailed through 3 days so I said 'Maybe 7 days', then 10 days, 2 weeks etc etc. I told myself at the beginning that the food would still be there when I finished. Nobody was going to come alomg and take all the food, I could have what I wanted when I'd completed my fast, and that's a huge part of why I was successful.

Trust me, if I can do it, your wife and anyone else can do it!!

Glad to hear it's been so easy for you so far - I was amazed at how easy it was, I never felt hunger at any point during the 30 days, but I really, really enjoyed food smells, and I rediscovered how much I enjoyed cooking for my son and my boyfriend.... it was a little bizarre to say the least!

I totally concur with you on this. I KNOW my wife could do it...she just doesn't want too. I don't want to become a "nagging" husband and I've tried to convince her. I'm just not sure how to approach it. Usually, if she thinks she doing something of her own mind she'll do it. I'm just not that good at psychological games :(

I know what you mean about food smells. I feel like I've gained a super-power over the last 5 days. Able to smell tiny bits of food from miles away.... he's Super-Dan!!! hehe Actually, I think when I go back to food I'll have an even greater appreciation for taste. Maybe that could be a line of reasoning for my gourmet loving wife.....
