  • Introduction to my Juice Fasting Blog   by  Golden Avocado     15 y     4,854       9 Messages Shown       Blog: Juice Fasting - the Fast and the Furious
Readers of this blog: (I hope to have readers!) Your insights and opinions are important to me! I appreciate it!

I have started this blog because I wanted a journal of my plans to conduct a 30-day juice fast. I want to "ramp up" to the actual juice fast, rather than just jump in with no mental/emotional or dietary prepartation. I have found from past experience that jumping in unprepared is unwise in the long run because the lack of preparation actually sabotages my efforts.

My biggest obstacle to success - I expect - will be my lack of discipline, lazyness, and current food addictions. I love coffee! I will drink up to 8 cups a day - loaded with suger and half-n-half. Last time I gave up coffee I had a wicked headache for three days. I also suffer from migraine headaches since I was 12 years old. I take Imatrex for the migraines, and don't like the idea of giving up the option of Imatrex in the event of a migraine - which WILL happen.

What do I hope to accomplish from a 30-day juice fast? Well, letting go of and breaking my food addictions is a great goal. Getting off the food addiction - migraine - exhaustion - cycle is my ultimate goal. You should know that I am about 80 pounds overweight. From all I have read about fasting, it is not the best method for weight loss for people like me who tend to feast afterward.

I have just discovered CureZone a few days ago (Feb 10 2006). I am joining in at the tail end of Dazzled's 30-day fast. Her Blog was an important factor in my deciding to stop thinking about Blogging and start this journal before and during my upcoming fast.

Cheers! *sips a glass of fresh juice*

    • Great decision, juice fast   by  But God     15 y     1,608
      Hi Susan,

I'm so happy you decided to juice fast, and especially glad you decided to blog. I'm on day 12, it's been a long time for me doing 30 days and the first time using juice (I did water before). But I'm glad I made this decision (blogging & fasting).

Laziness, discipline and food addiction (Umm) sounds like just about all of us (smile) don't feel alone. I love to eat and my husband more. We don't use coffee products well over 17 yrs, I use to be a Pepsi-holic. I also use to suffer with migraines and cluster headache, God healed me Susan, but He helps us heal most of the time through natural means (yes, I'm a FIRM believer in miracles). caffeine is a headaches worst enemy. Use the coffee another way...coffee enemas. I use to have to get SHOTS for my headache and I have a HIGH tolerance for pain (which is dangerous). Just try it, and slowly decrease the coffee intake. Oh, by the way coffee increases your appetite!!!

Susan, don't feel bad about your vices, everybody's got "thorns" but Gods grace is there for deliverance.

      • But God, Hello!   by  golden avocado     15 y     1,459
What a nice surprise! I went out to the kitchen to make some sushi (Avocado Sushi) with my husband, then I come back to see I already have a response!

Coffee is one of my worst habits. I don't smoke, I rarely drink. Coffee is my thing. Even though I have been on JF and WF of a few days in the past, I still am a little anxious about giving up coffee and the resulting headaches that always happen.

        Thanks for the reply!

    • Yay for you!   by  Seaside Station     15 y     1,358
      Welcome to Curezone.
..I've never done more than a seven day juice fast, (but I am planning a longer one after I get a top grade juicer).
I wish I'd blogged about my recent juice fast....there are special challenges when you have to continue cooking for the rest of your family. Especially on those days where the cravings kick in!!
It will do your body so much good to get off coffee for a while. Could you cut back gradually the week before you start juicing.....7 cups, 6 cups, 5 cups, 4 cups, 3 cups, 2 cups, 1 cup...blast off!
I look forward to reading of your journey....
      Best to you,
      Anne.

        Thanks Anne!
3-2-1...blastoff!!! Yeah, I will wean myself off coffee as before. You should have seen the looks on my coworkers faces last time I went off coffee! Nobody likes the withdrawal symptoms, do they?

I am marking my calender for March 1st 2006. That will be Day 1 of the JF. Until then, I will wean myself off my beloved coffee and ease off the other stuff that I should avoid everyday, not just pre-JF days. Did I mention I am a "carbo-haulic"? lol!

Oh yeah, I understand the issues of JF'ing while cooking for the Hubster and kids. I can taste the smells (or at least I imagine I can!) of dinner on the stove.

        Take care!

    • welcome!   by  Dazzle     15 y     1,172

      Golden Avocado,

What a very cool name, I like it!

Welcome to CureZone, I am so glad you're here.  Congratulations on making a fantastic decision to juice fast.  That is the most life affirming gift you can give yourself and your children.  When your family sees the huge and magnificent changes in your body and attitude, they will marvel and may even want to juice with you.  (But God's husband joined her after she started her 30 day fast)

In the beginning it will be tough, because your digestive system will be shutting down and so you will feel HUNGRY.  Starving.  But it will pass.  Just drink more juices, waters and teas until it passes and have no doubt, IT WILL PASS!  Once it passes, for the most part, you're on a homerun stretch.

I am excited for you because I know the beauty that's waiting for you at the end of 30 days.  Makes me almost want to do another 30 dayer back to back.  I come off my 30 day fast in two days, on Valentine's Day.  Kinda sad in a way.  LOL

Anywho, stay with it to the end.  You'll find much support on CureZone.  I see you've already met Seaside Station and But God, two very cool people who started their fasts not too long ago and they're doing terrific!  Then there's our maiden from downunder, Julie, who just came off her fast and is now in her post fasting.  Their blogs offer much inspiration.

Again, welcome to CureZone and above all, have fun on your journey!

      *hugs*
      ~ Dazzle

        Hi Dazzle!
I am glad you like my "handle"....

        "Mmmmm....avocados....." (Homer Simpson impersonation)

Thanks to you, Dazzle, and everyone for the warm welcome! I have not been active online in two or three years (not since leaving the Low Carbing boards...failed that method miserably). So its nice to active online again!

A 30-day JF will be a big leap for me because I have online done JFs and WFs of 5 days at the most. I just thought March 1st would be as good a time as any to do the 30-day, being that it will be almost spring. (Wait a minute! Spring in Central New York doesn't start til much later - never mind what the calender says!)

So, I am signing off for now. Time to fix dinner for the younglings and my dear husband.
        Talk to you later!
        Susan

All that caffeine and sugar are sapping the water from your body - try letting go of the coffee if you can otherwise you are stripping away all of the toxins in your body during the juice fast and then pumping them back in again with the coffee.

Good luck though...my longest fast has been 7 days on water, can't seem to get beyond that yet.

        fxwizard,

I have to give up coffee. That's all there is too it .....*sniff*

The coffee probably wouldn't be a problem if I drank it in moderation - say, a cup a day. But I don't take coffee in moderation. I drink several cups a day with lots of cream and sugar. I carry a huge travel mug around like a ball and chain. Often I drink coffee - not because I want it - but because I want to prevent a headache. Addiction?

I am fed up with it, so starting this morning I am going off coffee until the end of the fast, and maybe longer. This is one of things I planned to do in preparation for the big day. I just don't like being 'owned' by something that does me no good, you know?

        Susan
