”Besides learning to see, there is another art to be learned--not to see what is not.”
~ Maria Mitchell

The trouble with people is not that they don’t know, but that they know so much that ain’t so.”
~Josh Billings

”Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” ~ Dale Carnegie

”You can’t convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it’s based on a deep seated need to believe” - Carl Sagan

”Keep your face toward the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.”

”When you want what you have never had.... You must do what you have never done ... Nothing is impossible to those who believe ...”

”I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing as S. G. Tallentyre in 1906.

”The only difference between winners and losers, is that loser try and fail ... try and fail... try and fail and give up.
Winners try and fail ... try and fail ... over and over again until they succeed.” Don’t give up!

”The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic. [...] The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent.” Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., 1919

Text of the First Amendment

The First Amendment, as passed by the House and Senate and later ratified by the States, reads:

”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

”The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is beside the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech.”
Anthony Kennedy, International Society for Krishna Consciousness v. Lee, 505 U.S. 672, 672 (1992) (concurring).

”You do not define the First Amendment. It defines you. And it is bigger than you. That’s how freedom works. It also demands you do your homework.”
Charlton Heston, Speech to the National Press Club (14 September 1997).
