I've been brewing my own kombucha for about a year now. I don't drink it as much as I should, but it does increase my energy and I think if I drank a little every day I'd notice more. I've never reacted to it really but sometimes it makes me sweat (although anything acidic makes me sweat a little...?)
If you've never tried it I recommend buying a bottle of the pre-made stuff to taste. Then you'll know what it's supposed to taste like if you decide to ferment your own. Also, it tends to be fizzier when bought than I can ever get it to be when I make it (it's fizzy on the day of the "harvest" and then fizzles out)probably due to being in a closed bottle.
One note of caution: if you want to brew, this "mushroom" is seriously gross looking. Especially after the harvest; there are long slimy brown threads hanging off the slimy white 'shroom. So if this would make you less likely to drink it (obviously filter it first) just buy it. One day when I'm rich (ya right!)I'll buy it, but for now I think it's kinda fun to make and experiment with different flavors and acidities. I sometimes mix it with mineral water if not fizzy enough.
I guess I didn't really answer your question about the health benefits but info is out there if you are willing to look! I don't hear much about kombucha on CZ...
