Gluten Allergy Tests for Sixth Graders
The newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet” reports that 10,000 Swedish sixth graders are to be tested for gluten allergy.
The newspaper says intolerance to gluten, which is found in bread and grains, is the most common chronic disease among children after asthma and allergies, and many suffers seem to be unaware of their condition.
One reason is that gluten allergy is hard to diagnose. Starting this week, 10,000 Swedish 12 year olds will visit their school nurses for special blood tests looking specifically for the substance that indicates an intolerance to gluten.
